Plastic Free July
brings awareness of how much plastic is used at home, at work, at school, and in your
everyday life. If you do not know how to begin the process of using less
plastic, you can take a quiz at the Plastic Free July website. The Pesky
Plastics Quiz takes less than five minutes to complete, and you will receive an
e-mail. The entire website is filled with tips on how to reduce plastic waste. Begin
slowly by eliminating plastic in your home.
Refuse plastic straws when you order take-out meals. Purchase plant-based or compostable materials for your family picnics. Also, try to shop locally at a Farmer's market with your reusable bags. Avoid purchasing your sauce, jelly, and other condiments in plastic containers. Additionally, purchase your television microwave dinners in compostable material.
Avoid using plastic bags when purchasing your vegetables. Reuse your plastic containers for your plants, bird feeders, and for making crafts. Try to purchase your clothes with natural fibers whenever it is possible. If you like to chew gum, buy chewing gum with natural ingredients. Chewing gum has plastic that is used to make plastic water bottles.
Therefore, avoid purchasing your drinks in plastic bottles. Try to purchase your drinks and other food items in glass or plant-based compostable materials. It might seem like a challenge to avoid using plastic. However, in July and each month of the year, you will be able to reduce plastic waste. Here is the link for Plastic Free July.
