National Eye Care & Glaucoma Awareness Month
Glaucoma is an eye condition
that damages the nerves due to too much pressure in the eyes. By getting your
eyes dilated in your yearly eye exam, your ophthalmologist can tell you if you
have too much pressure in your eyes and other eye conditions. There are six
different tests to detect Glaucoma. This medical condition does not have any
symptoms until it is progressed. It is only diagnosed through an eye exam. Therefore, to bring awareness
for Glaucoma, green is used during January.
When Glaucoma has been advanced the symptoms are pain in the eye and halos. It also causes permanent damage to the eyes. Eating healthier, doing exercise, and limiting your caffeine intake is one way to protect your eyes. Walking, jogging, and low impact aerobics are a few exercises that lower the pressure of the eyes. Wearing protective eyewear when doing computer work, gardening, and other work also helps to protect your eyes. Here are more resources about Glaucoma and taking care of your eyes.
