Spring
break is the beginning of a mini vacation from studying, taking tests, and from
extracurricular activities from college. However, if you are traveling for the
first-time during spring break, you might want to follow some safety rules when
checking into a hotel. If you are traveling as a group for spring break, make
sure you know the names of the people that are in your group. Also, have
everyone’s contact information in case of an emergency. Next, it is recommended
to inspect the hotel room before you unpack your luggage.
Check
the doorknobs, the closets, and the restrooms. If you find something in the
hotel room that is not yours, give it to the hotel personnel. Additionally, if
you forgot to pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, or bath soap; Ask the front
desk for a care package. After you have unpacked your items from your luggage,
memorize your hotel room number or type it in your cellphone notes application.
If someone knocks on your door, verify with someone from the front desk if it
is a hotel employee.
Always
carry two business cards of the hotel with the address and telephone number.
Carry one business card in your purse and another business card in your cell
phone. Purchase a phone wallet that you can stick on your cell phone cover to
carry your hotel business card. Another tip is to carry a good undecorated
purse, bag, or a zipper tote bag to carry when leaving your hotel room. Make
sure the hotel room is well-lit and that there are security cameras and create
a safety hotel plan with your group.
Another
tip is to carry a first aid kit in your purse or in your tote bag. Carry extra
cash with you to avoid using your credit card too much while you travel. Be
alert to your surroundings. Travel with your group and follow a schedule for
your meals. Pack an extra pair of comfortable shoes and comfortable clothes for
your travel plan schedule.
Purchase
hand sanitizers or sanitizing wipes to clean the doorknobs and your hands.
Bring your lotion, sunscreen, nail clippers, and other items in a clear zipper
tote bag. If you are going to a concert, purchase a clear transparent purse
bag. Use a code word with your group in case someone falls, or another emergency
occurs. Carry an extra juice box and snacks in case someone has low sugar
during the trip.
Use
binder clips to close the curtains of the windows especially if the curtains do
not close all the way in the hotel room. Practice meditation techniques while
you are in the hotel room to help you sleep at night. Use a trash bag or a
laundry bag for carrying your unclean clothes. Last, carry your valuables with
you and do not leave them in the hotel room. Here are resources with more hotel
