Instead of throwing away a missing earring, you can recycle your missing earring into a necklace. For this do it yourself necklace, you can use pearls to add to your missing earring with a leather cord. Did you know that pearls symbolize wisdom? Also, wearing pearls has a calming effect. Here is the tutorial for making this pearl necklace.

Materials:

2  Pieces of  Cord end, fold-over,silver-finished steel (5 X 4 mm)
1 Lobster Clasp
1 black leather cord
Pearls
1 Hoop Earring
Bead Stringing Wire ( .015 in X 0.38 mm, 30ft)

1 medium or large size jump ring
Jewelry pliers

First, measure the black leather cord for the length of the necklace. Once, you have found the right length for your necklace, cut the cord with a pair of scissors. Second, insert one end of the cord into the cord end and make a tight knot. After that repeat the same step for the second end of the cord. Third, use a jump ring and a pair of jewelry pliers to put the jump ring onto the left cord end. Fourth, remove the hook from the hoop earring. Fifth, insert a jump ring into the hoop.

Then, add a medium or a large jump ring onto the hoop. Sixth, use the wire to insert the pearls onto the hoop. Insert the wire onto the hoop earring with one pearl and make several knots. Make sure the knots are tight. Seventh, insert another pearl onto the wire and make a few knots. You will need seven pearls to make this do it yourself pearl necklace.

However, you can use as many pearls for your necklace. Once the pearls are onto the earring hoop, trim the edges of the wire with a pair of scissors. This does it yourself necklace makes a great gift. Have fun making this pearl necklace. Here are more resources on making a pearl necklace.
