Why Have a Sleep Journal? (National Sleep Comfort Month)
Sleep
journals are beneficial for you to understand your sleep cycle. Begin writing
in a sleep journal to track how much sleep you get and what disturbances affect
your sleep. Also, sleep journals can help you see what needs to be done so you
can get enough sleep. The entire month of November is dedicated to an awareness
about sleep. Devote some time to preparing your mind and body for sleep by
starting a sleep journal.
Write down the
time you go to sleep. Then, if you wake up in the middle of the night, write
down what woke you up. For example, you can write down any noises at night, the
wind, the rain, or a scary dream. Additionally, you can write down any snacks
or drinks that you had earlier in the day. Sleep journals can help you pinpoint
any underlying issues.
Since November is
National Sleep Comfort Month, I have created two sleep journal pages. These two
sleep journal pages can be colored and can be used every week. These journal
pages are simple and easy to use. It has an area for writing down the date and boxes
to write down your answers. For example, you can write down the time you went
to bed and the time you woke up.
After that, you
can write down how you feel or draw a happy or sad face. Furthermore, these
sleep journals can help you establish a sleep routine. Sleep journals might
help you improve your sleep habits and sleep routine. Make sure you have your
sleep journal next to your bed with a pen or pencil. Practice using your sleep
journal for two weeks or a month.
Share your
observations with your medical provider. Your medical provider can assist by
giving you tips to improve your sleep. Additionally, you can flip your mattress
or get a new mattress to give support to your back. Get new pillows or rotate
your pillows to support your neck and avoid neck pain. Below are websites for
more information regarding sleep journals and the free sleep journal pages I
created.
