DIY Wedding Shower Favors with Spice Jars

Getting married in the summer is an exciting time for the bride and for the groom. It is also an exciting time for the entire family. Yet, getting married in the summer can be stressful in preparing the wedding party and making sure that there are enough wedding favors to be given out to all the guests. Although wedding favors are optional for brides and grooms to give out to their guests, wedding favors make a good thank you gift for them. Wedding favors are small gifts, but they do show appreciation and gratitude for coming to the couple’s wedding.

Wedding favors are personalized with monograms, wedding dates, and with a theme to go with the wedding. However, wedding favors can be made at home and in advance for all your guests. Also, it is a clever idea to make extra wedding favors in case you need them. Today’s painting tutorial is about making a butterfly spice jar for wedding favors. Using a reusable spice jar and a butterfly stencil with acrylic paint can make a simple wedding favor with chocolate candies or mini heart soaps.

In this example, a butterfly was used for the theme of the wedding favor. Butterflies are symbols of hope, transformation, and love. You can purchase empty spice jars online or use empty spice jars that you have at home. Spice jars come in different shapes and styles which can be found online. Here are the instructions for making this reusable spice jar as a wedding favor for your guests.

Materials:

Paintbrushes

Empty Spice Jars

Acrylic Metallic Paint

Paper towels

Chocolate candy or mini heart soap

Butterfly stencil (optional)

Mod Podge or Clear Nail Polish

Ribbon

Scissors

Tags (optional)

Instructions:

Begin by washing the spice jars and letting them air dry. If the spice jars have an odor, you can use baking soda and vinegar or salt with vinegar. Nonetheless, once the spice jars are dry, you can begin painting. Use a butterfly stencil and outline the butterfly with paint. Next, continue painting the butterfly in the front side of the spice jar.

Wait for the paint to dry. Then, use Mod Podge or nail polish. After that wait for the Mod Podge or clear nail polish to dry. Next, add the chocolate candy inside the spice jar. Repeat the same steps for the rest of the spice jars and add ribbon.

The best part is that the spice jar can be reused as a flower vase once the chocolate candy is finished. This project can take about one hour or three hours to do depending on how many spices jars you need for your wedding favors. However, if you want to have a painting party with your bridesmaids, your bridesmaids can help you paint the spice jars. Nevertheless, you can add a tag after you add the chocolate candies or mini heart soaps inside the spice jar. Have fun painting and making these wedding favors.
