Finding happiness can
occur in an instant, in a day, or it can take many months. However, happiness
might seem different to you than the happiness that your friend experiences.
Happiness can occur in an instant especially if you are with someone that you
like, eating your favorite meal, or cooking your best-loved meal for your
entire family. Other times, instant happiness can occur when you are alone in
your garden and enjoying your botanical garden at home. Nonetheless, this
temporary happiness makes you feel appreciative of what you do for your family and
for yourself.
Yet, finding your
happiness can take months or longer depending on your experiences and situations
in life. So many times, you might encounter individuals who are angry all the
time, who are always making you feel awful, and who are always envious of what
you do in your job. It can also happen to you with your family members who always
are separated from the rest of the family members and from you. Forgiveness is
the toughest aspect of practicing, and it is one element of finding your
happiness. This factor is challenging especially if the hurtful comments and opinions
come from your family members.
Practice empathy to
understand your family members that have hurt you. Accept your emotions and practice
emotional release. Often setting boundaries can help you even if you do not want
to have communication with them. You can forgive them but sometimes it is best
to stop communicating with them to prevent further damage from family
relationships, family reunions, and family events. Do not participate in hateful
gossiping with the family, taking one side of a family member’s point of view,
or blaming one family member for everything.
To find happiness one needs
to practice self-discovery. Uncover your hidden talents, skills, and what you
want to do in life. Do not let a family member prevent you from discovering
yourself. Appreciate how you take care of yourself, appreciate what you do in
your job, and appreciate what you do to take care of your family. Practice
appreciation, forgiveness, and gratitude with yourself and with others.
Happiness can also be
found through self-care, meditation, yoga, tai-chi, or doing other activities
that make you smile. The entire month of August is Happiness Happens Month
where you can bring awareness of making someone happy and making yourself feel
happy. Do random acts of kindness which is one way to practice happiness happens
month. As well as sharing an inspirational picture with someone to make them smile,
laugh, or make them see the good aspects of life. Additionally, practice oral
hygiene every day to make you feel self-confident, happier, and to smile more.
Make a care package for
someone that is grieving or prepare a meal for them. Host a luncheon for them
or a dinner as well as making them feel comfortable so they can speak their
feelings as they go through the grieving process. Thank you handwritten notes,
letters, or a flower can also be given to them to make them feel appreciated.
Plan an unexpected trip, vacation, or a day to travel to see the national
forests, botanical gardens, museums, or art galleries with your friends. Do
activities that make you feel happier as well as activities that make your
partner feel happier too.
Happiness Happens Month
can be celebrated throughout the month of August of every year. Share your
happiness with others but do not boast too much about it online. Take classes
to improve your job skills, your cooking skills, or arts and crafts skills. Add
body hygiene habits for happiness such as taking care of your nails, taking
care of your elbows, taking care of your feet, and smiling during your hygiene
