What is 988 Day?

The 988
Day has been declared by SAMHSA as a day for bringing awareness of the 988
Lifeline. This emergency number is for suicidal, mental health, or substance
use crisis, and this telephone number is available twenty-four hours a day. As
well as a lifeline chat and seven days a week. The theme for this year is
" No Judgement. Just Help." 988 day is a day to help someone to find
support without judgement.
The 988
Lifeline is confidential, and it is free. It was formerly called the National
Suicide Lifeline. However, the 988 Lifeline number can give support for
emotional distress, depression, and anxiety. Also, for speaking to someone
about anything that bothers you with a trained counselor. You can also text 988
on your mobile device.
988 Day
is a day dedicated to bringing awareness on social media and to helping others
to find emotional support. Use the hashtag, # 988 Day with 988 social media
images. As well as ordering or printing out materials for free to bring
awareness of the 988 Lifeline telephone number. You can get posters, stickers,
magnets, notecards, and wallet cards. Additionally, the notecards have warning
signs of emotional distress.
Do not
feel embarrassed or scared to speak to a trained counselor. Encourage others to
seek professional help from a trained counselor. Give out printed materials of
988 Lifeline on your college campus with permission from your professors. Leave
printed materials of 988 Lifeline in your college library or at work. Last, you
can post on social media various images in many languages regarding the 988
Lifeline.
Nonetheless,
you can call 988 and speak in English, Spanish. French, Hindi, Tagalog,
Italian, or any other language. There are translators and more than two hundred
and forty languages available for connecting with a counselor. The 988 Lifeline
telephone number, chat, and text messaging is available throughout the entire
United States. Furthermore, you can volunteer and get trained to speak with
empathy, care, and with kindness to help anyone who needs support.
The 988
Lifeline also has a telephone line for veterans. You can get support, be listened
to, and understood. The National Suicide Prevention Week also starts on
September 8th through September 14th. You can wear yellow for Suicide
Prevention Awareness and wear green for Mental Health Awareness. Here are
