Cleaning Produce During a Pandemic
During
these days of quarantine, it is important to clean your produce besides cleaning
kitchen counters, stoves, and sinks. After buying your fruits and vegetables,
it is highly recommended to wash them before putting them away in your fridge
or on the counter. Some vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and other cruciferous
vegetables should be washed with distilled white vinegar for ten or fifteen
minutes in a bowl of water. Also, you can wash them with lemon juice and with
water. Other vegetables can be washed with salt and water before you use them
for cooking your meals.
When
washing your fruits, you can also soak them in water and in salt or with vinegar
for ten to fifteen minutes. You can use a plastic toothbrush to gently remove
the dirt of strawberries and other small fruits while you wash them with salt
and water. Another way is by washing them with baking soda and with water. It
is a good idea to wash all your fruits and vegetables to prevent any stomach
issues before consuming them. Washing
your fruits and vegetables can prevent food poisoning, E.coli, and bacteria
from getting inside your body.
After
everything is washed, you will worry less and feel secure about consuming your
produce. Although the Coronavirus (COVID-19) does not affect the food system, it is best
to prevent stomach issues during these stressful times. This can prevent diarrhea,
vomiting, and stomach cramps while you stay at home. It is best to prevent and
not to lament later. Here are more
