Self-Honesty, Self-Awareness, and Self-Presentation (National Self-Awareness Day)
What is National
Self-Awareness Day? What can you do on National Self Awareness Day? It is a day
to stop and to think about how one is feeling and how one needs to focus on
oneself before taking care of others. It is also a day of self-discovery and to
have a deeper connection with oneself. As well as a day to make changes
especially if you are seeking a new experience or a new change for personal
growth.
Practice meditating for
your self-awareness during your vacation breaks and spending time with your
thoughts. Close your eyes and visualize yourself swimming. Visualize the blue
water, the temperature of the water, and swim at a fast pace. Then visualize
yourself swimming at a slower pace. Lastly, visualize yourself doing frog kicks
in the swimming pool.
Visualize swimming in the
pool and feeling the water. Open your eyes as you smile. Write down how you
felt. Another way is to visualize yourself walking or riding a bicycle to
beautiful grasslands. Then write or draw your grasslands.
Be consistent with your
meditation routine for self-awareness. Avoid distorted thoughts about yourself
because of public self-awareness. Find a balance between public self-awareness
and your internal self-awareness. To practice authenticity in public for public
self-awareness can be challenging. However, public awareness makes you
self-conscious and makes you self-reflect about your self-presentation.
Often adjusting your
communication, appearance, and reducing your self-consciousness can make you
listen to yourself. Do not neglect your self-honesty and your individuality.
Visualize yourself walking in a fashion runway but walking with
self-confidence, self-worth, and self-focus. Projecting your self-image and
individuality with a smile. Not competing with others about your appearance,
height, or weight.
Being self-conscious and
understanding your entire essence as an individual without letting your past
experiences define you. Another aspect is being self-conscious of what can
distort your self-image and self-perception on social media. Often one’s self-presentation
on social media might look different when you are in person with a group of
friends or with your coworkers. It is necessary to practice authenticity and to
self-reflect on understanding the choices that one makes for career growth and
personal growth. Yet, making decisions can constantly change and can make the
dynamics of one’s self-awareness to continue evolving.
Do not copy phrases,
quotes, or other words from others especially if it does not seem to match with
your authentic thoughts. Be careful about losing your self-love and with
distractions. Visualize walking in your fashion runway without competition,
comparisons, and distortion. Practice speaking in public by not being
self-conscious about public self-awareness. Lastly, do not have unrealistic
expectations but do meaningful activities for yourself with gratitude.
You might be filled with
too many questions about yourself and sometimes cannot answer them. There might
be times where you might do certain activities, make certain decisions, or
might have a self-realization that you need to change something in your personal
life or in your career. On National Self-Awareness Day, you might likely to do
a self-refection walk, mindfulness for self-awareness, journaling, or other
distraction-free activity to help you to be more aware. Additionally, you might
want to decide or write in your planner to schedule some time to do self-care
for self-awareness. No matter what activity you select to do on National
Self-Awareness Day, make sure you are comfortable and can practice
self-expression and self-schema.
Self-journaling can help
you find your strengths, interests, and to improve your self-schema. Your
self-schema is developed through childhood experiences and experiences in your
adulthood. As well as your experiences in a social aspect. Positive self-talk,
positive affirmations, and replacing a negative sentence with a positive
sentence when you are writing about your feelings in your journal can be
helpful. Reflecting every day for five to ten minutes a day to find your
strengths and your capabilities for improving your career growth and for
changing your lifestyle.
Be aware of your body,
your social environment, your lifestyle, and your thoughts. Concentrate on your
emotions, thoughts, and observing your reactions. You might not understand why
you are feeling or reacting in a certain manner. But the more you observe and
begin to understand yourself, you will be able to understand your emotional
responses and progress with authenticity. Traveling can also help you with your
self-awareness and to understand yourself better.
Yet, to be aware of
oneself, you must be open to new opportunities, possibilities, and be able to
be honest with yourself. Permit yourself to enjoy the process of self-image,
self-awareness, and self-concept. Do not distort your self-presentation on
social media. Also, do not change your self-presentation because of
comparisons, rejection, or trying to be someone else. Be honest and remind
yourself to be yourself during a social setting.
It might seem difficult to
practice self-awareness. Self-awareness is a continuous study and understanding
about yourself. Seek professional help if you have a tough time in being
genuine and honest with yourself. Practice visual meditation for five minutes
or before you socialize. Breathing techniques and practice self-honesty with
your self-talk.
Have time for
self-reflection, self-focus, and self-care. Be curious about getting to know
yourself by doing new activities, understanding your weaknesses, and not
forgetting about yourself. A deep understanding with yourself begins with
self-acceptance, self-honesty, and self-kindness. National Self-Awareness Day
is on September 28th every year. Here are resources for self-awareness.
