Healing with Art (National GOE Day)
National
GOE Day is about healing, recovering, and finding the ways to heal, especially
through art. This day is about healing from abuse, traumatic events, and
unhealthy relationships. GOE means Growth, Overcome, and Empower. Although
abuse and any traumatic events cannot be fully erased from our minds, it is
possible to take each day at a time to manage our emotions. Abuse and traumatic
events make anyone develop emotional pain, mental conflicts, and physical
hurdles; Therefore, it is important to find healing for growth and for
overcoming these recurring memories that come to mind.
As well
as focusing on something to help you become stronger and keep under control.
This day can be spent by going to art galleries, museums, and local community
art events. Similarly, you can make your art on canvas, paper, or wooden pieces
to express your emotions. This helps you to heal at your own pace. Furthermore,
you can practice painting on canvas with a group or with your friends.
Encourage
yourself to feel and think optimistically for making a positive change in your
life. It does take time to change into an optimistic phase in your life,
especially if everything is doubtful in your life. However, healing with art
does permit you to connect with yourself and with others. This connection makes
you feel safe and helps you find a safe place to heal emotionally. You can also
go to the library, or a bookstore, or purchase art prints that inspire you and
help you to heal inside.
Relax by
coloring adult coloring pages. You can additionally sketch on paper and use
vine charcoal for your sketches. Slowly draw or sketch for about thirty minutes
or an hour to destress. Decorate your home with your artwork. Use chalk and
make your art in your garden.
National
GOE Day is on Sunday, the first full weekend of the month. This year it is on
October 8th. Since 2015, My CARE Initiative which is a nonprofit
organization that implements art, art education, and the community to
participate in this day of healing. You can make digital art online, draw by
hand, or look at artwork. Practice self-reflection with art.
Get to
know yourself through your art. Sometimes a therapist, psychologist, or
counselor can help interpret your art. Interpreting your art is beneficial for
you to understand your hidden feelings. Art helps you express hidden and open
emotions. This creative self-reflection makes you feel better and makes you
progress with your personal growth.
Self-reflect
on your abilities, your skills, and what you have accomplished. Tell yourself
you can overcome painful memories and uncomfortable events. The more you feel
empowered, the more comfortable you will be. Never give up on what you can
