National ADD/ADHD Awareness Month 2024
Every
year in October is National ADD and ADHD Awareness Month. To bring awareness
for Attention-Deficit Disorder and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder,
you can wear an orange T-shirt and orange accessories. Also, you can include
social media posts with educational information regarding ADHD and ADD. There
are many misunderstandings related to Attention-Deficit Disorder and
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder
that begins with childhood and continues to adulthood.
Impulsive
behaviors and not paying attention are signs of ADD and ADHD. However, there
are three forms of ADHD which can be diagnosed with a doctor. Sometimes it
causes hyperactivity and other times it is just impulsive behavior, anxiety,
and lack of focus on schoolwork, work tasks, or with the family. Stress is one
common factor that increases the symptoms of ADD and ADHD. Although there is no
significant factor that causes ADD and ADHD, it can be due to genetics, the
environment, head injuries, alcohol use, and the use of smoking during the
pregnancy.
Yet, ADD and ADHD
can be treated with a professional behavioral therapist, primary doctor,
medications, eating healthier, exercise, and getting enough sleep. As well as
reducing stress and eliminating distractions such as television, computers,
tablets, and other electronic devices. Having ADD or ADHD can be manageable by
using techniques to help you relax and have a daily routine. Sleep is one issue
that needs to be treated when it comes to ADD and ADHD. Avoid taking naps and
avoid drinking too many beverages with caffeine.
Although caffeine
keeps you awake, alert, and might help you concentrate with ADD and ADHD;
Always consult with your doctor about limiting caffeine beverages or what they
recommend for you. Not getting enough sleep can cause changes in mood,
irritability, and can make your symptoms worse with ADD or ADHD. Approximately
seventy percent of adults and children with ADHD have a tough time getting
sleep. Insomnia, sleeping less, resisting sleep, or other sleeping disorders
can occur. Therefore, consult with your child's pediatrician or with your
primary doctor for sleeping recommendations for ADD and ADHD.
ADD and ADHD
affects one's learning. It is listed as a learning disability although it is a
neurodevelopmental disorder. A neurodevelopmental disorder affects the growth
and development of the brain. ADHD is a developmental disability. Sometimes it
can have an auditory processing disorder in addition to the Attention-Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder and Attention-Deficit Disorder.
ADHD is often
confused with APD. Auditory Processing Disorder also makes one get distracted
and have a challenging time listening. ADD and ADHD can be evaluated in school
or in college. Sometimes Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder can be diagnosed through a medical doctor. One in ten
people who have dyslexia also have ADHD.
Therefore, it is
necessary to get evaluated in school and in college to find ways to learn, to
reduce stress, and to manage the symptoms. Recording lectures, taking tests in
a quiet room without distractions, and having a notetaker can help with ADD and
ADHD. This month dedicate some time to spread awareness of ADD and ADHD. Join an
online seminar about ADD and ADHD to learn about eating healthier, exercise,
learning tips, sleep tips, and more information. Use orange light bulbs,
decorative blue and orange pumpkins, and decorative rainbow butterflies.
Decorative
rainbow butterflies can be used to decorate your garden for ADD/ADHD. Rainbow
butterflies are symbols of strength and are used to bring awareness for
ADD/ADHD. Moreover, decorative blue pumpkins are used for autism spectrum
disorder (ASD) during Halloween which can be combined with decorative orange
pumpkins with rainbow butterflies for ADD/ADHD Awareness Month. Meditation,
mindfulness, aerobics, and visual meditation may be beneficial for ADD/ADHD.
