The Effects of Bullying (National Bullying Prevention Month)
Every year a child or a teenager is bullied at school. Sadly, the consequences of being bullied linger on throughout adulthood. When he or she becomes an adult, depression, and anxiety become severe. Usually, the child or teenager does not get enough help at school to stop the bullying. Often, parents do not see that their child or teenager is being bullied online, in school, and public areas.
By the time, parents find out, the child or teenager is trapped in their thoughts. The child does not verbally socialize and avoids being with kids their age. Generally, he or she is alone during lunch and recess. Their grades get lower and their self-esteem is damaged. Anger and sadness develop more when they are bullied.
The anger and sadness build up onto their adulthood. They might make the wrong decisions based on low self-esteem. Also, they might find a bully as their partner. They might abuse drugs, alcohol, and other substances to escape their problems. The consequences of bullying might lead to suicidal thoughts.
If a child or teenager does not get treated psychologically, their depression and anxiety get worse as an adult. In addition, other health issues might appear due to the stress of being bullied. The whole month of October is dedicated to bullying prevention. The colors blue and orange are used to bring awareness to bullying prevention.
