Body Image & Mental Health
About seventy percent of adult women abandon
their activities due to body image. More people feel unsure of themselves
because of their body dissatisfaction and not having the body image that they
want to have. Mental health affects body image by making more anxiety and
depressive thoughts about how one looks physically. Social media, bullying, and
negative comments from people make people more aware of one’s body image.
When you do not have good mental health, your
body image is distorted making you have negative thoughts and making you change
your appearance. Depression, eating disorders, and other mental health issues
impact your body image. When you look at yourself in the mirror, you might
want to change your negative thinking. Positively look at yourself with acceptance and not with disgust. See your whole body as a beautiful part
of yourself.
Accept the way your body looks physically. Do
not avoid seeing yourself in the mirror because of low self-esteem and lack of
body confidence. Instead, appreciate and give gratitude for how your body looks.
Exercise and do self-care for your body. Be thankful for how your body works.
Feel comfortable with your body.
Do not avoid taking family pictures because of
having a bad body image. Accept yourself and do not compare yourself to your
family members. Skip weighing yourself on the scale if it causes you to feel
anxiety or more self-conscious about your weight. Seek professional help for more
guidance and in building self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth. Below are
