Meditation Symbols (National Meditation Month)
Meditation has been
practiced since 3,000 BCE although there is no exact time of when meditation was
developed. Yet, meditation continues to be practiced all around the world because
of the health benefits. There are many forms of meditation which can be
practiced throughout the day. If you walk in a meditation studio, you will
notice a lotus flower. The lotus flower is a symbol of re-birth, wisdom,
tranquility, and of spiritual enlightenment.
Since meditation
involves being aware and in the present moment, the lotus flower also
represents being grounded. This beautiful flower emits a sweet scent and comes
in a variety of colors. Yet, the lotus flower is one of many symbols of
meditation. Depending on what form of meditation, you practice, you might see
other symbols. The mandala is a round shape that represents the universe.
But you do not need
meditation symbols to meditate. If you want to meditate for more concentration,
you can practice walking meditation, breathing exercises, and say mantras. You
can practice mindfulness if you want to take a pause before doing a daily
activity. However, meditation is necessary to add to your daily routine to slow
down and not to do things in a rush. Here are more resources about meditation,
misconceptions, and the symbolism of the lotus flower.
