How to make Parfaits with Chia Seeds?
Yogurt
parfaits can be made with walnuts, granola, cereal, granulated sugar, fruit
syrups, chocolate fudge, nuts, or other sweet dessert items. However, if you
have prediabetes or diabetes, you can make a yogurt parfait using less
ingredients. Yogurt parfaits can be made in advance for breakfast, as a snack,
or for dessert. In this example, chia seeds were added to the parfait with
pineapple and strawberries. Yet, you can use any fruit to make your
parfaits.
Sometimes, I like
to use whipped cream with less sugar to make my parfaits. However, for this
yogurt parfait I used plain Greek yogurt. If your fruit is not too sweet, you
can use vanilla yogurt. Additionally, you can add a little bit of honey mixed
into the plain yogurt. Here is the recipe for making this yogurt parfait.
Ingredients:
Pineapple Slices
or Pineapple Chunks
Strawberries
Chia Seeds
Greek Plain
Yogurt or Vanilla Yogurt
A Small Mason Jar
or a Cup
Honey (Optional)
Preparation and
Parfait Time:
Use clean mason
jars or glass cups. Then wash and slice strawberries. Next, slice pineapples.
If you use Pineapple chunks, slice them in half to fit inside the jars or glass
cups. After that add a few spoons of yogurt and add chia seeds in a small
mixing bowl.
Mix the chia Seeds with the plain yogurt. Next add the yogurt and chia seeds with a spoon to put inside the jar or glass cups. Then, add strawberry slices. Add more yogurt. Last add the pineapple slices and a little bit of plain yogurt on top of the pineapples.
This parfait has no walnuts, but it can be added to the
parfait.
Repeat the same
steps to make more parfaits. Refrigerate the parfaits. After lunch or dinner
serve parfaits. Serve immediately and enjoy!
