Summer Online Class Tips
Taking
a summer class online can be challenging but it is a rewarding experience after
taking the class. It is recommended to create an area in your home for taking
the class. Make sure the room is not distracting. Keep the room uncluttered as
well as keeping your desk area clean to take notes. Next, have a schedule for
taking the class and for doing your homework in your study area.
Have a study area
with enough lighting. Dust and clean your computer, desk, chair, and everyday
items. Hang a wall calendar and use a desk calendar to keep track of homework
assignment due dates. Use a to do list weekly to write down your assignment due
dates, quiz dates, test dates, and other items from your online class schedule.
Keep snacks and drinks away from your computer.
Make it a routine
to study in a room that has good air ventilation and a comfortable area to sit.
Organize your desk and keep your cell phone silent while you are taking your
Zoom class. After the online class is done, take a break and answer any missed telephone
calls if necessary. If a study guide is provided by your professor, use the
study guide as soon as possible before taking your quizzes or tests. Motivate
yourself by using a vision board or creating a poster with positive
self-affirmations or quotes.
Take bathroom
breaks before taking your online class so you do not miss anything important
for your tests. If you get hungry before your online class, make an easy or
quick snack to eat thirty minutes before class starts. Another recommendation
is to have an early breakfast or lunch before taking your online course. Also,
make sure your study area is clean in case you must turn on the camera from
your computer during your Zoom class. You can also add a background or blur
your background before the Zoom class begins.
Make sure your
camera and microphone work ahead of time. Before taking your Zoom class make sure
what you wear does not blend with the selected background. It is recommended to
wear blue, white, gray, black, or beige so your face can be seen clearly with
the Zoom background. Wear less jewelry and not wear anything distracting for
other students. Nonetheless, follow any dress code rules if it is in the school
or college guidelines for your online classes.
Summer online
classes take dedication, self-discipline, and concentration. Yet, it permits
you to advance your career and to learn new job skills. Read the description of
the online classes especially if the classes are self-paced or if the classes
are time driven. If the classes are time driven, the course will go quickly.
Keep in mind your family responsibilities and work priorities before signing up
for a time driven online class.
However, if the
classes are self-paced, you will be able to make a schedule or have a planner
to plan your study time and other responsibilities. Once you have selected your
online class and prepared a planner, stick to your schedule. Use the weekends
to do summer activities and to take breaks from doing homework. Be available
for your friends and doctor’s appointments during the week. Here are websites
