Tips for Sleeping in the Summer Season
Sleeping
through the night during the summer season can be challenging. The summer heat
keeps you awake at night and makes you sweat. As well as making you toss and
turn while you are trying to sleep. Additionally, if you have late meals can
make it harder to fall asleep. Changes in body temperature, summer allergies,
and more sugary drinks are other reasons for making it tough to sleep at
night.
However,
there are ways to sleep during the summer season by using a dehumidifier. Use a
dehumidifier especially if you have summer allergies and to reduce the humidity
from the bedroom. Change your bed sheets to thin fabrics and your pillowcases.
Limit your consumption of caffeine and alcohol. Keep ice water in a thermos on
your nightstand.
Use wet
hand towels to lower your body temperature. Also, use a cooling pad to insert
in your pillowcase. Add a cooling sleeping mat. Move your cellphone to another
room if needed so you can sleep better. Change your sleepwear.
Select
your summer sleepwear made from linen, cotton, or bamboo. For example, you
might wear a thin fabric night gown, a crop t-shirt, shorts, or a cooling
pajama set. Use a sleep cooling headband especially if you sweat too much at
night. Wear cooling socks if your feet are too hot and keep you awake. If you
tend to get migraines in the summer, you might want to use a migraine relief
beanie.
Close
your curtains and reduce the indoor temperature of your bedroom. Set a summer
sleep schedule and use a sleep journal or sleep chart. Often hunger at night
might increase during the summer months and it is necessary to keep a journal about
your eating habits. Change your bedtime snacks in the summer such as eating
popcorn, trail mix, yogurt, nuts, and other light snacks. Here are resources
