Healthy Friendships in a Community (National Mental Health Awareness Week 2025)

What is Mental Health Awareness Week? How can you help during Mental Health Awareness Week? Every year in May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Yet, the second week of May is dedicated to bringing awareness of Mental health in college, in workplaces, and in other public places. Every year there is a different theme for Mental Health Awareness Week.

Beginning on May 12th through May 18th is National Mental Health Awareness Week. This year the theme is about being safe and having positive friendships in your community. Helping others to be comfortable, serene, and supportive is one way to have healthy friendships with positivity. However, it can be challenging at times especially when you are in a group. Sometimes you might feel you do not belong in the group because of group expectations or differences that make you have doubts.

To have healthy friendships in a community, one must avoid having group expectations and be supportive, listen carefully, and help others. As well as having empathy and giving feedback without blaming one or everyone in the group. Open communication, trust, and sharing experiences together to connect as a group while celebrating everyone's successes. If conflicts arise, it is necessary to speak about disagreements without blaming, judging, and without letting everyone feel uncomfortable in the group. Be honest and have boundaries with yourself and within your group.

It is possible to have healthy friendships with positivity in your community group in the workplace, in college, or in other public places. Bring awareness of Mental Health Week by wearing green, having green accessories, and encouraging others to be in community groups for one’s mental and physical health. Motivate others to give out brochures and to participate in healthy activities for mental and physical health. Being in a community group can reduce isolation, feelings of loneliness, and reduce the feelings of not fitting in college, in a workplace, and other public places. Inspire others to be in a community group that does not separate anyone by making them feel safe and showing appreciation to everyone.

As well as having a better understanding of Mental Health Awareness one step at a time. Make sure you participate in a community group that makes you feel safe, comfortable, and confidential support for your mental and physical health. A positive environment with active conversations and activities that lift everyone’s mood during the hours of socializing in the community group is essential for mental wellness. It can make it easier to connect with others for healthy friendships. Nonetheless, make sure you participate in frequent or weekend community group events for bringing awareness of mental health by doing mental health reminders for yourself and for your community group.

Decorate your backyard by using green luminaries. In addition, decorate your rooms with green butterfly decorations, plants, and artwork that encourage you to practice self-care for your mental health. Use quotes and positive affirmations for your mental and physical wellness. Motivate others to participate in workplace, college, or other community events for mental and physical health; As well as finding professional supportive counseling and mental health resources where you live.
