DIY Bandana Face Masks With Ear Loops Tutorials

Today, I have created two bandana face masks using only one bandana. These face masks are sewn by hand onto a premade mask with ear loops. Using one bandana, needles, thread, and premade masks, these masks can be ready in approximately two hours. After the bandana is sewn onto the masks, these masks are ready to be worn and washed. Here is the tutorial for making the first scarf bandana with ear loops.

Materials:

1 Bandana- any color
Scissors
Embroidery Thread
Thread
Embroidery needles
Regular needles
Premade mask
Fabric made of Cotton
Iron
Safety pins or sewing pins

Wash the bandana and the cotton fabric. Wait for the bandana and the cotton fabric to dry. After that iron, the cotton fabric, and the bandana. Next, sew the cotton fabric on the front of the mask and on the back of the mask. Once that is done, cut one bandana in half. Sew the edges of the bandana that was cut in half. Fold the bandana in half and insert one end of the bandana onto the mask with safety pins. Sew the corner of the bandana onto the mask. Continue sewing the sides of the bandana onto the mask. Remove the safety pins. Sew the areas where you had the safety pins. Then, sew the back of the mask. After that it is ready to be worn.

The scarf bandana will cover your nose and your chin. If you want a longer length or to cover your neck, do not cut the bandana in half. Instead, fold the bandana in half and sew it onto the mask for a longer length or to cover your neck. Here is the tutorial for the second bandana mask. Using the other half of the bandana, sew the edges of the bandana. Sew cotton fabric on the front and on the back of the mask.

Next, fold the bandana in half. Insert one end of the bandana onto the mask with safety pins. Sew the corner of the bandana with embroidery thread and with an embroidery needle. Sew the edges of the bandana onto the mask. Then, remove the safety pins and sew those areas with embroidery thread. Last, shorten the bottom part of the bandana with scissors. Continue sewing the leftover fabric onto the mask. After that it is ready to be worn and washed. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend.

Arthritis Awareness Month

It is Arthritis Awareness Month. Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints which causes stiffness and pain. Exercising may alleviate the pain caused by arthritis. Applying heat and then ice helps to reduce the inflammation. Sitting too long makes the pain and stiffness worse. Therefore, doing gentle movements throughout the day will help you have better mobility.

Adding fruits such as cherries, berries, and bananas fight the inflammation that is caused by arthritis. Also, including vegetables such as bell peppers, sweet potatoes, and carrots helps with the inflammation. Controlling your weight also helps lessen the pain. Incorporating supplements such as turmeric, magnesium, and oil helps to alleviate the pain. Before adding supplements to your diet, consult with your primary doctor. Here are more resources about Arthritis Awareness Month.

Taking Care of Your Skin While Wearing a Mask

Taking care of your skin should not be difficult while wearing a mask. Before you put on a mask, wash your face with a mild cleanser or with an unscented bar of soap. Also, you can use an unscented baby wipe to wash your face. After you have washed your face, apply an unscented face cream. It is recommended to use an unscented lotion especially if you have allergies or to prevent an allergic reaction to the skin.

In addition, if you do have allergies, you can use a saline nasal spray before you put on the mask. Make sure your face cream has sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage. Another skin care tip is to use baby gel or an aloe vera gel on your face instead of face cream. Avoid applying the gel around your eyes. By applying face cream or gel onto your face, your skin will be less irritated and will itch less.

Some skin irritations are due to allergies of certain fabrics. It is recommended to wear a mask made out of cloth such as cotton. Another skin care tip is to wash your face as soon as you get home. Apply a cold cream after you wash your face. Avoid getting your hair onto your face while and after wearing a mask. Wearing a mask protects yourself and others to stay healthy and safe during this pandemic. Here are more resources about taking care of your skin while wearing a mask.
