Free Coloring Pages with Hens

If you are looking for coloring pages with farm animals, then you might like these coloring pages of hens. The feathers of hens come in a variety of colors such as blue, grey, brown, black, white, red, and orange. Today, I created three coloring pages of hens. Hens are affectionate and have nurturing qualities while protecting their baby chicks. Also, when decorating kitchens, hens can be incorporated in your interior design by using statues of hens, kitchen towels, and painted framed artwork.

Hens have shorter tails than roosters. Yet, hens are used to decorate kitchens and living rooms to make a welcoming and cozy home. Hens symbolize abundance, fertility, and new beginnings. These coloring pages are free and for your personal use. Happy Easter!

Painting Rocks with Nicknames

Painting rocks with nicknames is a quick personalized painting project. Painted rocks with nicknames can be used as paper weights and for decorating mini-indoor gardens. Always use a spray sealer, Mod Podge, or clear nail polish to seal the painted rocks. Also, keep in mind where you will place the painted rocks. It is illegal to hide painted rocks in National parks and other national landmarks.

However, painted rocks can also be placed outside in your garden especially if you use big rocks to decorate your rock garden. In this example, the painted rock with a nickname is displayed on a kitchen countertop for decoration. Painted rocks can be used to hold notes, as placement holders, or as a conversation starter. Use your favorite colors with your nickname or your friend's favorite colors to paint a rock with their nickname. Here is the tutorial for painting rocks with nicknames.

Materials:

Paint brushes in different sizes

Acrylic paint

Rocks

Nail polish

Paint holder, reusable plate, or empty egg carton

Instructions:

Select a rock from your garden. Then begin by washing the rock. Dry the rock or let it air dry. Next, paint the rock on one side. In the example, white paint was used. After that wait for the paint to dry.

Paint a flower on the center of the rock. Wait for the paint to dry. In this example, a flower was painted with gold metallic acrylic paint. Then pink or orange paint was used to paint the flower. After that wait for the flower to get dry.

Use a paper towel, old cloth, or cardboard to avoid getting paint on your kitchen countertop. A pink heart was painted on the sides of the rock. Wait for the painted hearts to get dry. Paint green leaves and a stem for the flower. After that wait for the paint to dry.

Last paint a nickname. Let the paint to completely dry before using a spray sealer or nail polish. Painted rocks make a cute decoration for decorating your kitchen countertops or your friend's kitchen countertops. It makes an interesting, personalized gift for them and to decorate with their nickname. Have fun painting!

Making a Milk Bath at Home

Milk baths are beneficial for eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, and can be used for sebaceous dermatitis. It gently exfoliates the skin especially for the feet, hands, and for dry flaky skin on the face. Milk can also be used for sunburns from the spring and summer heat. Making milk baths at home can easily be done by using powdered milk, buttermilk, coconut milk, rice milk, soy milk, oatmeal milk, or any other type of milk. You can use an empty mason jar or an empty spice jar to store powdered milk.

Make a label with the expiration date to store your powdered milk in a mason jar or in a spice jar. Next, you can use baking soda, Epsom salt, or essential oils to mix with your powdered milk. Store essential oils, Epsom salt, and baking soda in separate containers so it does not mix with the powdered milk. Nonetheless, you can store essential oils and the Epsom salt together in one empty mason jar or an empty spice jar. Remember to label all the jars before using them for your feet, hands, and face.

Why do milk baths? Milk has vitamins, minerals, and lactic acid which hydrates and moisturizes your skin. It helps alleviate dry itchy patchy skin. You can use honey as well as carrier oils with essential oils for your milk baths. Incorporating a milk bath can help you relax before going to sleep.

It also prepares your feet before wearing sandals for the spring and the summer season. After doing your milk bath at home, you can apply aloe vera, baby oil, or lotion on your feet with socks. As well as applying on your hand’s lotion or oil with gloves. Milk baths can also be done during the winter months. Additionally, milk baths are beneficial for any skin type.

Using milk helps sooth your skin from poison ivy and calms dry itchy skin. You can use a pumice stone while you have your feet wet and with the milk bath. Furthermore, you can use a soft shower sponge for softening and washing your feet. Another ingredient that can be used is white tea, chamomile tea, or mint tea with milk to moisturize and clean your feet. Wear sunscreen on your feet before going out with your sandals.

You can leave your feet in the bath milk for thirty minutes. Lavender, sage, peppermint, and vanilla extract can be added to your milk bath. Always assess a small area before applying it to your skin. Consult with your primary doctor or dermatologist before using milk baths as a skin treatment. Here are resources about using milk bath.

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Courtesy Image from NACCD

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is about bringing awareness of developmental disabilities and inspiring and bringing opportunities for achieving their capabilities. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability. However, there are more developmental disabilities such as Cerebral palsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Down syndrome, Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). These disabilities impair physical aspects, language, behavior, and learning. Yet, these disabilities do not prevent them from strengthening their abilities.

The entire month of March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month where you can wear light blue for Developmental Disabilities Awareness. Also, orange can be used to bring awareness for ADHD. Blue can be used to bring awareness for autism spectrum disorder and green for bringing awareness for Cerebral palsy. Silver and gray can be worn to bring awareness of FASD. As well as wearing red shoes, red socks, or anything red for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

This year the theme for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is “World of Opportunities.” This theme is about removing obstacles so they can be successful. Creating opportunities, changing attitudes, and educating yourself about developmental disabilities. Giving support to artists with disabilities and purchasing their artwork. In addition to getting resources to educate employees in businesses, schools, and colleges.

Learn how to instruct your child as a parent by becoming a teacher's assistant. Becoming a teacher's assistant or becoming a teacher to support and tutor students with developmental disabilities is a positive learning experience. As well as giving your time by tutoring students in math and other difficult subjects in school. This year's artwork was created by Lee Waters who is an educator and artist. She also tutors students with disabilities and is an inspirational mentor.

Understand developmental disabilities as a caregiver. Do not make assumptions that they cannot do something by themselves. Ask them if they need help but let them be independent as they learn their abilities. Keep the same schedule and routines. Do not change their routines because it makes them more anxious, scared, or confused.

Ask and offer to help someone with developmental disabilities. Be an inspirational mentor for someone and give encouragement. Support developmental disabilities by joining a walkathon and donating to foundations. Below are resources for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Last, bring an awareness of developmental disabilities on social media by using infographics and educational resources with the hashtags, "#New Opportunities " and "#DDAM24."

Creating a Weekly Mindfulness Routine

There are many ways to practice mindfulness in your daily life and it can be incorporated in the practice of yoga. It can be practiced individually and as a group. Mindfulness is beneficial for the body and mind. There are five aspects of mindfulness in Buddhism that makes it essential to understand oneself. Keep in mind that you can practice mindfulness for spiritual purposes or for reducing stress. First, mindfulness helps you understand your body and how your body senses things which is called the material form.

This is done by observing your body and noticing if you are in pain or if your body is too tired. Second, mindfulness makes you observe your feelings and makes you be aware of them. Third mindfulness makes you perceive which is the third aspect of mindfulness. Perception is complicated and unnoticeable but is influenced by past experiences and current daily experiences. Therefore, perceptions need to be done without judgement although you can label what you recognize and feel.

Fourth mindfulness can help you make decisions in a calm manner. It helps you respond, select, and make positive intentions when it comes to making decisions in a social aspect. Last, mindfulness makes you use your senses, and this fifth aspect is called sensory consciousness. In summary, the five aspects of mindfulness help you to be aware of the present and not to focus on your past experiences. Practicing mindfulness can help you meditate at a deeper level.

Also, it helps you find inner peace and insight. Furthermore, if you practice the seven factors of awakening can help you to find inner peace and insight. The factors are mindfulness, analysis, energy, joy, relaxation, concentration, and self-control. These factors permit you to accept, to have determination, and to be aware of one’s reality while one meditates for inner peace and insight. It makes you fully aware and to focus on what you observe.

It helps you to be self-compassionate and practice gratitude. Create a weekly mindfulness routine by practicing it for five minutes per day. Gradually add more time to practice mindfulness. Practice mindfulness through yoga by observing your body, your breathing, focusing on your self-awareness, and letting go of distractions. Fold clothes neatly and slowly.

Slow down when doing daily activities. Select doing mindfulness in the morning, in the afternoon, or at night before going to sleep. Make time to practice mindfulness. Also, the more you practice mindfulness, the more you will be self-aware, self-determined, and understand oneself. Here is a list of mindfulness activities.

  1. Listen to the rain, the wind, and thunder at home by being silent.
  2. Focus on your breathing while putting one hand on your abdomen.
  3. Clean and organize your kitchen utensils slowly while observing their texture, material, and colors.
  4. Clean and organize your purse without rushing.
  5. Eat some fruit, a slice of pudding, or a snack slowly and in silence.
  6. Say a word softly and do breathing exercises to slow down.
  7. Practice painting or other creative activities by focusing on your artwork in silence.
  8. Count to one hundred in the shower while shampooing or conditioning your hair.
  9. Do a puzzle, crossword puzzle, or other word game slowly without rushing.
  10. Count slowly while doing the laundry.

Avoid forcing yourself to slow down. Mindfulness comes naturally when you practice it more. It will be done automatically without thinking about it. Moreover, mindfulness permits you to enjoy doing activities slowly. Practice mindfulness with your partner.

Write down what you feel and fold the paper slowly. Dance by observing one's movement and dance in silence. Another example of mindfulness is by focusing on one's breathing. Doing one task at a time, decluttering items, and walking while using your senses are other examples of practicing mindfulness. Watching the sunrise or the moonrise while being silent.

Preparing the dinner table quietly and feeling joyful while doing household chores. Have a journal, a list, or a chart to remind you to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness can be practiced at work during your work break or doing single tasks at work. Creating a weekly mindfulness routine might help you worry less, feel accomplished, and feel peaceful with bliss. Here are resources for practicing mindfulness.

Taking Care of Your Hair in the Spring

Taking care of your hair from chlorine can protect your hair from hair damage. Swimming can be a lot of fun during spring break but one must take care of one’s hair from too much chlorine. It is recommended to wear a swimmer's cap to avoid chlorine from damaging your hair. Yet, if you do not have a swimmer's cap, you can rinse out the chlorine by using tomato juice. Tomato juice has vitamin C and can get rid of the chlorine smell.

Make sure to rinse it out. Keep in mind your hair type and what natural ingredients you want to use to clean your hair. Apple cider vinegar, white vinegar, and lemon juice with baking soda can also remove chlorine from your hair. Another way to wash your hair after swimming is by using club soda. Club soda gets rid of frizz and can remove hair build-up and dirt.

Too much chlorine can dry your hair strands and scalp. However, you can use milk to hydrate and soften your hair. It makes your hair look glossy and it helps strengthen your hair. Use a bottle sprayer to add milk and to spray milk on your hair. Let it sit on your hair for twenty to thirty minutes.

Rinse out your hair. Coconut milk, Buttermilk, and other types of milk can moisturize your hair to make it shiny. Another item that can be used to make your hair shiny and give volume to your hair when you are curling is to use beer. Beer can be used on your hair but too much beer can dry out your hair overtime. Depending on your hair type, natural ingredients used from home can alleviate your hair scalp from chlorine and reduce hair damage.

Trying out natural ingredients such as olive oil, eggs, honey, and other ingredients from home can save you money. Yet, keep in mind your hair texture. Some ingredients can dry out your hair or make it too oily. Nevertheless, have a hair journal to see what helps your hair and what makes it too flat, oily, dry, or flakey. Always consult with a dermatologist or your primary doctor for using products for hair growth and removing chlorine from your hair.

Always rinse out the natural ingredients and carefully comb your hair. Wear a ponytail, braids, or a swimmer's cap when you are swimming. Wash your hair immediately after swimming. Nonetheless, taking care of your hair during the spring break can prevent hair tangles and reduce chlorine hair damage. Here are resources about hair care from chlorine.

International Read To Me Day

Every year on March 19th is International Read to Me Day. Although this day is for children to remind their parents to read to them; It is a day to read to them without being reminded. Read books that can be easy for them to understand. Have them select the book that they want you to read to them. View the front cover of the book and the back cover of the book.

Read to them aloud and slowly. Change your voice to the narrator and the voices of the characters. If this is the second time that you read to them the same story, you can make sock puppets. Make sock puppets or paper puppets before reading the story. However, if they get bored, stop reading the book and ask them if they want to change the ending of the story with their puppets.

Another way is by using their stuff animals and to use them as the animal characters from their story. Change your voice and use their stuff animals as puppets. Make a comic strip if they like to draw and color. Read with enthusiasm. Turn off or silent your cell phone for one hour before you read to them.

Every time you read them, make story time fun and creative. If they are tired of puppets, make a camping atmosphere in the living room. Use flashlights and battery-operated lanterns. Make a tent with blankets and pillows. Read to them camping story books, fairytale books, or other books where they can use their imagination.

Make hot cocoa, smores, or trail mix and read to them. Also, have them read to you as you make them trail mix, hot cocoa, or smores. Have them sound out the words when they read to you. Read them in another language. Practice reading with them for five minutes or for thirty minutes a day.

It is recommended to have a bookshelf in your living room or in their bedroom. Take them to the bookstore or purchase books online based on their grade level and age. Read to them four or six books per week. Use a reading chart for them and for yourself to keep track of the books you have read together. Stop reading if they fall asleep and add a bookmark to continue reading to them the next day.

Depending on their age and grade level, they can read to you for thirty minutes to an hour. Furthermore, they can write down words that they can find in their books. Read to them without you getting bored or sleepy. Nevertheless, reading to them before their nap or before they go to sleep can help them develop language skills. Doing Yoga in the Spring

Doing Yoga in the spring can make you feel less tired and help you adjust to weather changes. You may feel more relaxed, happier, and feel refreshed. Incorporating poses such as the Butterfly pose, Rabbit pose, Turtle pose, Horse pose, and other poses can make your yoga experience joyful. Be aware of your comfort level, your breathing, and if your body is in pain. Add blocks, cushions, or modify the yoga poses to feel comfortable and less pain on your body.

If blocks or cushions feel too hard while using them for your yoga poses, you can use blankets to support your spine and hips. Blankets can be folded to be more comfortable while doing your yoga poses. You can use old blankets or cut an old blanket in half. If you cut an old blanket in half and sew the edges, it can help you roll it for giving support to your neck. As well as supporting your knees depending on the yoga pose that you do.

Hip opening yoga poses are useful especially if you sit all day in your job. For example, the Flower pose opens your inner thighs and your hips. However, to do this pose your arms and hands need to be able to balance the rest of your body while your head is on the floor. You lift your legs up facing in front of you. Other hip opening yoga poses are the Lizard pose, Half Pigeon pose, and Double Pigeon pose which help with stiffness on your hips and thighs.

The Turtle pose helps you concentrate especially if you feel sleepy in the mornings. Try doing the Heron pose, Pigeon pose, and the Crow pose to stretch your body in the morning or in the afternoon. These poses help you focus and strengthen your body. Challenge yourself by doing the Horse pose and the Frog pose. The Frog pose and the Horse pose opens your hips.

If you have a tough time relaxing your mind from never ending thoughts, you can put on an essential oil diffuser bracelet or an essential oil diffuser necklace. Make sure it is lightweight and not distracting to you or to others. Although, it is not recommended to wear jewelry during a yoga session, you can put on an essential oil diffuser bracelet during your last yoga pose as you focus on your breathing. Inhale and exhale as you smell the essential oil coming from your diffuser bracelet or necklace. You can also wear an anklet with an essential oil diffuser.

Another way to practice yoga in the spring is by practicing yoga in your garden. Being surrounded by flowers and smelling your flowers can help you be in a good mood. In the last yoga pose, you can hold a flower from your garden as you finish meditating. Another way is by getting dry flower petals from your garden and putting them in a bowl with water. Stare at the flower petals as you say your mantra for five minutes before ending your session.

However, if you practice yoga indoors, you can imagine a flower garden while you meditate. Say a flower name as your mantra to help you focus. Purchase a flower yoga mat to help you visualize a garden as you meditate and do yoga poses. After your yoga session, you can work on a journal and press flower petals on the pages. Furthermore, you can write in your journal and stare at the flowers or petals for five minutes.

The spring season makes it easier to increase exercise activities and doing yoga outside to lift your mood. After doing these yoga poses, you may feel flexibility and be able to move your body with less pain. The Rabbit pose and the Butterfly pose reduce stress especially from a long workday. However, any yoga pose permits you to relax before going to work or before going to sleep. Here are websites with more information about doing yoga in the spring.

Dating Someone Similar to Your Ex

Sometimes when you are dating someone, you are reminded of your ex. You find similarities with the person you are dating and cannot stop thinking about your past relationship. You might be afraid and might feel the need to be unattached from the person you are dating. This is a mechanism to protect yourself from getting hurt. However, keep in mind that the person that you are dating is like your ex, but you are not dating your ex.

This is a common occurrence when you are dating. You might like someone based on their resemblance to your ex’s physical appearance, their manners, intellectual conversations, and other qualities that you liked from your ex. Furthermore, these similarities can make you feel motivated to begin a conversation with the new person that you are dating. Due to the similarities, you might feel vulnerable and rushed to trust the person that you are now dating. Also, these similarities can make you feel comfortable with the relationship although you do not know the person that you are dating that well.

Therefore, it is necessary to remind yourself that you are not dating your ex. Remind yourself that you are dating someone new who is like your ex. Furthermore, the attraction of liking someone who is like your ex might become uncomfortable at times; But it can be managed to have a romantic relationship. One must remember that every relationship has challenges and that both partners need to agree to solve them. One must have an optimistic attitude and let go of expectations based on past experiences.

When you find similarities in someone who reminds you of your ex, it is often an unconscious emotional aspect that influences you to select your new person to date. This can also occur in a social aspect because you might not have forgotten your ex to the full extent of your subconscious. You might have unresolved issues from your past relationship experiences that can reveal to you hidden emotions and unrequited feelings toward your ex. It is important to consult with a therapist to solve those unresolved issues with patience and self-awareness. Pay attention to your reactions and what you feel when you discuss with your therapist about your past experiences with your ex.

Take the first step to work on those unresolved issues. Additionally, dating someone that is like your ex is not bad especially if the person makes you feel optimistic, attractive, comfortable, and feel genuine. Yet be cautious when you are dating and be open to new experiences without being reminded about your past experiences with your ex. Do not make comparisons with the new person that you are dating. Furthermore, do not make expectations thinking that the new person that you are dating is exactly what your ex would do.

Think about what attracted you to this new person. Often being attracted to someone like your ex might make you miss your ex. Loneliness and missing someone from your past can make you feel empty. Sometimes seeing someone like your ex can make you smile and enjoy their companionship. However, you might end up calling them the wrong name because of the resemblance of your ex.

It is recommended to separate your feelings regarding your ex. Start by getting to know the new person that you are dating. Think beyond their appearances, age, and other similarities; Get to know them by who they are intellectually and their sentiments. If the person that you are dating only brings out pessimistic thoughts about your ex; Reconsider the relationship. Feeling angry, aggressive, and feeling that it is your fault is another deduction to reconsider the relationship.

Dating someone because of the similitude can also cause unfulfilled desires to be unveiled to you. These desires can make you have unrealistic expectations. Therefore, be patient with your emotions and permit yourself to move on from your past romantic relationships. Acknowledge and accept the similarities while going beyond that to get to know them better. Here are resources about dating someone like your ex.

A Spa Day with Buttermilk

Buttermilk hydrates the skin and can be used in a bath for a relaxing spa day. It can also be used in face masks by using buttermilk with other ingredients. However, buttermilk can also be used by itself to reduce melasma and redness of the skin. To lighten dark spots and remove dirt from the skin, use a cotton ball to put on buttermilk. Leave on your face, hands, and feet for twenty minutes.
