Cooking with Tofu


Tofu is a good addition to having a healthy meal at home. It has iron, calcium, and vitamin A. Also, tofu is beneficial for reducing your cholesterol and helps with reducing your sugar levels. Furthermore, it helps the cardiovascular system. Tofu is made of soybeans, soybean milk, and water; Therefore, it needs spices to give it flavor. 


But before you cook tofu, make sure you select the appropriate texture for your meal. Tofu comes in a soft texture which is used in soups or for tofu spaghetti. As well as a firm and extra firm texture which makes it easier to cook in a pan for salads, tacos, wraps, sandwiches, or in pasta. Moreover, tofu makes any plant-based meal taste delicious and absorbs the sauce. Begin by drying the tofu and drain the water from the packet. 


There are a variety of sauces that can be used to give tofu some flavor such as mango, teriyaki, soy sauce, barbecue, and dipping sauces. Besides the sauce, you can add spices such as paprika, curry, cumin, turmeric, lemon and pepper, and other spices. In this example, curry and turmeric were used to flavor the tofu before adding it to the bow-tie pasta. However, you can make plain tofu for salads by using soy sauce or teriyaki sauce. It depends on how you use tofu for your meals and taste preferences; Yet it is a reliable source of protein.


Tofu is quick to make and nutritious. Other minerals and vitamins it has are vitamin B-6, Omega 3, and selenium. It may help the bones, and the brain, and it may prevent certain cancers. Consult with your doctor before adding tofu to your meals. Here is a recipe for making tofu in a salad or pasta. 


Ingredients: 

Tofu-firm or extra firm 

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

One or two Garlic cloves


Spices: 

Oregano

Curry

Turmeric

Lemon and Pepper 


Pasta-Farfalle or Bow Tie 

Baby Spring Mix or Iceberg lettuce

Apples

Cucumbers

Tomatoes

Salad dressing 


Sauce: 

Soy Sauce 

Teriyaki 


Bell peppers


Preparation and Cooking Time: 


Take out the tofu from the package carefully. Drain the water and remove the excess water with paper towels. Next, add soy sauce and teriyaki sauce and cook the tofu in a skillet with olive oil. After that flip, the tofu for ten minutes and cook each side of the tofu. Then turn off the stove when the tofu is golden brown. 


In a bowl, add baby spring mix or iceberg lettuce. Wash and slice cucumbers. Wash and slice tomatoes or apples. Add the cucumbers and tomatoes or apples. Then cut the tofu into cubes. 

Add the tofu to the salad. Next, add your favorite salad dressing. Another way to make tofu is by adding curry, turmeric, ginger, lemon and pepper, and oregano. Mix the spices on both sides of the tofu. Cook the tofu on both sides in a skillet with olive oil. 


Peel garlic cloves and use a garlic presser to add garlic to the tofu. Cook the tofu on both sides for four minutes. You can pour teriyaki sauce after you cook the tofu. Next, cook the bow tie pasta and cook the bell peppers separately. Then, in a bowl add the pasta and the tofu with bell peppers. 


There is no sauce for the bow-tie pasta because the tofu has plenty of flavors. Yet, you can add pasta sauce if you like. This serves two or four people. If you want to stretch the tofu quantity, you can slice the tofu in half before cooking it. Here are websites about the benefits of tofu.

Changing a Monogram Anklet Into a Necklace


Monogram necklaces make a nice gift for graduations, birthdays, or any other occasion. However, if you cannot find a monogram necklace, then this tutorial is for you. Converting a monogram anklet into a necklace is a quick jewelry project to do. It is a good project if you want to update your monogram jewelry. Here is the tutorial. 


Materials: 

Jump rings 

Monogram anklet 

Black cord necklace 

Washer, ring earring, or a plain ring

Jewelry pliers 

Jewelry wire cutter 

 



Gather all the materials. Next, remove the monogram from the anklet. Set the anklet chains aside. Use many jump rings to attach the monogram to the washer or plain ring. After that close the jump rings with jewelry pliers. 


Add a jump ring with the leftover anklet chains. Use a jewelry wire cutter to make the chains even. Then add the jump ring with the chains to the monogram and washer or plain ring. Last, insert everything into the black cord necklace. Have fun making your monogram jewelry.

How to Have a Spa Day at Home?


You can have a spa day at home by using items that you have in your kitchen for your hair mask, face mask, and hand mask. Begin by finding time to schedule a spa day. Spa days are one way to do self-care and relax at home. You can use essential oils and Epsom salts to wash your feet before doing a pedicure at home. Additionally, you can use apple cider vinegar or baby shampoo to wash your feet. 


Make your spa day at home without purchasing expensive items but make sure you use the items that same day. You can use yogurt, cucumbers, eggs, oatmeal, sugar, honey, and other ingredients for your hand and face masks. After you make your mask, apply it slowly onto your face and hands. Leave it on for about ten minutes depending on what ingredients you use. For example, you can slice tiny pieces of cucumbers and mix them with yogurt or yogurt mixed with turmeric. 


However, if you have sensitive or itchy skin, you can use oatmeal, eggs, and honey mixed for your face and hand masks. Leave it on for approximately ten minutes before rinsing it. Next, you can make your relaxing drinks with water or with seltzer water with vegetables and fruits. For example, seltzer water was used with slices of cucumber and lemon. Drink slowly and breathe slowly while you taste your drink.


Face masks and hair masks are easy to make. But make sure you are not allergic to the kitchen ingredients that you use for your face and hand mask. Assess your mask on a small section of your wrist to make sure you are not allergic to the food ingredients. Apply the face mask and hand mask in your kitchen. Sit down and enjoy listening to the nature sounds. 


After rinsing your face mask and hand masks, you can also make a sandwich with olives and pickles. For example, you can make a hard-boiled egg salad with tomatoes and onions with mayonnaise. Add a little bit of pepper or salt to the egg salad. After that toast bread and spread the egg salad on the toasted bread. Then add pickles and olives on the side with the egg sandwich. 


You can make vegetable sandwiches as another spa day sandwich. Nonetheless, take your time and do not rush. Give yourself two hours to do self-care and a spa day at home. Play your favorite music or nature sounds while you make your face masks and hand masks. Avoid checking your text messages, e-mails, or social media for those two hours. 


Clean your nails. Paint your nails with nail polish. Wait for your nails to dry. Apply lotion or oils on your hands. Insert washable gloves into your hands and let the oils or lotion moisturize your hands.


If you want to make a hair mask, you can use olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, or any other oil for your hair needs. Depending on your hair type, you can use avocado oil with egg whites, or olive oil with egg whites to make your hair look glossy. For example, if you have oily hair, you can use egg whites with lemon on damp hair. Leave it on for ten minutes or fifteen minutes before rinsing your hair. Wash your hair with shampoo and let it air dry. 


If you have frizzy hair, you can use castor oil with olive oil. After using a hair mask rinse, it out and wash your hair with shampoo. Eggs and olive oil can also be used on curly hair but make sure you apply it to dry hair and a shower cap. A shower cap can also be used for thin hair, thick hair, or wavy hair to keep your egg mask from dripping on the kitchen floor. After doing the hair mask, you can take a bath or a shower. 


End your spa day by applying lotion or oils after your shower. Wear a comfortable robe or comfortable loungewear. Write in your journal or read a short story before starting your daily tasks. Journaling Tips When You Travel


To begin a travel journal is a clever idea to keep yourself busy and your entire family. It helps you to relax and to reflect on your travels. However, it might be difficult to write down everything especially if you are on a tour. Take the time to write in your journal while you are inside your hotel room. On the first page write your travel schedule, what you are excited to see, and what you are excited to do in your vacation. 


Also, write down the dates of your travels. Next, write down how you are feeling, what the weather is like in that place, what you smell, and what you hear outside. Use your senses to help you write in your travel journal. If you do not feel like writing everything, use bullet points to write in short sentences about your vacation. Draw or doodle what you see such as birds, flowers, waterfalls, or other items. 


Use paper clips to add tickets, brochures, or other paper souvenirs. Add stickers, pressed flowers, or anything you find during your trip. Write in the morning or at night before going to sleep. Sometimes you can write in the afternoon during your coffee or tea break. Get in the habit of writing in your travel journal for stress relief and to enjoy your vacation in a new way.

Hot Yoga for Beginners


What is Hot Yoga? Is it for everyone? If you are new to practicing hot yoga, you might want to follow some of these recommendations. Hot Yoga is done in a hot room where there is no air conditioning. This type of yoga makes you sweat as you do yoga poses in a hot temperature room.

Yet, hot yoga has become popular over the years because it helps you lose weight, helps with depression, and it helps you be less anxious. Also, it helps your body to be more flexible. Before you begin doing hot yoga consult with your primary doctor to make sure you can do this type of yoga. This type of yoga is not suitable if you have a bloody nose, high blood pressure, heart conditions, or other health condition. However, if your doctor approves for you to begin hot yoga, make sure you have plenty to drink after practicing this form of yoga.

Hot Yoga classes last for about one or two hours. Take a shower or a bath before going to class. Select your yoga clothes with lightweight fabrics and clothes that dry quickly. Wear light-colored clothes to feel more comfortable in a hot room. Skip wearing your favorite perfume, essential oil, or lotion before your class.

But do wear deodorant before your class because you will be sweating a lot. If you have long hair, wear a high ponytail, a hair bun, or braids. Nonetheless, make you feel comfortable before going to class by getting everything ready including your yoga mat and a tote bag with your snacks along with your water bottle. Drink water and do not eat a heavy meal for three hours before your hot yoga class. Have lunch with hydrating vegetables, protein, nuts, wraps, and with hydrating drinks.

Bring towels to roll and wipe off your sweat during the class break. Once you are there in class, get cozy with the hot temperature in the room. It is recommended to do hot yoga three times per week if your main purpose is to lose weight or to relax your body. In hot yoga, you will do many yoga poses such as the Half Moon pose, Eagle pose, Triangle pose, and Tree pose. As well as challenging poses such as the Toe Stand, Standing Separate Leg Stretching pose, Balancing Stick pose, and Standing Head-to-Knee pose. 

The first few weeks of doing Hot Yoga can be difficult especially if you cannot tolerate the heat. However, an alternate form of hot yoga is doing yoga in a warm room. Not everyone can do hot yoga but do not feel like a failure if you prefer doing yoga in a warm or cooler room. Before you do hot yoga, you can practice doing yoga at home in a hot room for thirty minutes to get comfortable being in a heated room. Next, hydrate yourself and change your sweaty clothes immediately after practicing hot yoga.

Have two sets of yoga outfits. One to wear and one to change into after your yoga session. Once you get home, take a shower and continue being calm before you go to sleep. Enjoy your yoga sessions in a hot temperature room by not thinking about the heat. In this way, you will be able to do the yoga poses and begin to sweat without thinking about how much you sweat. 

Use mantras and make sure you do breathe slowly throughout your yoga session. Wash your yoga clothes after practicing Hot Yoga. Clean your yoga mat and wash your towels after your session. Taking care of your allergies throughout the seasons is necessary for your well-being and your health. The entire month of May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. Eat fruits and vegetables that have vitamin C. For example, eat a grapefruit, or an orange, or make lemonade to improve your immune system and prevent allergies. Remove your outdoor shoes before entering your home and wear your indoor shoes. 

Clean your floors or vacuum your floors to eliminate indoor dust. Remove the dust from your fans and change the filters from your air conditioning. Dust items that accumulate dust and wash your blankets every two weeks. Read the ingredients of laundry detergents or purchase laundry soap for sensitive skin. Cleaning Jewelry with Olive Oil

Preventing Suicide & Tips for Parents


Being a teenager is tough these days. There are so many frustrations, struggles, and confusion. But the hardest part is managing your emotions when a friend in high school dies because of suicide. There are no words to describe how a teenager feels and it is important to seek therapy. Grief counseling may seem like a waste of time to them, but it is necessary to express those feelings with a counselor.


Self-harming, depression, addictions, alcohol and substance abuse, bullying, and other issues are challenging for a teenager to confront alone. However, these factors must be addressed to prevent suicide. There are warning signs that make you aware as a parent about your child contemplating suicide. Withdrawing from their friends, family, and acquaintances. Giving away their favorite items, money, and other materials. 


Changes in behavior and spending too much time alone in the bedroom. Asking too many questions about death. Also, writing and reading about death. Wearing baggy and long sleeves to hide their arms, especially during the hot weather season is another warning sign. Telling their peers, they will join their relatives and friends that have passed away.

How to Celebrate World Meditation Day?

 


You can practice meditation on World Meditation Day even if you feel you are too busy to meditate. Every May 21st is World Meditation Day where you can be more self-aware and focus more on relaxing. Take your time to do three things or just one thing to help you relax today on World Meditation Day and every day of the week. Notice your breathing and if you are breathing too fast at work, slow your breathing by doing counting meditation. Practice box breathing or say a mantra in your mind while you breathe slowly.

Listen to a guided meditation for five minutes using a meditation app during your work break and use your headphones if needed to focus. Walk outside and use your senses while you enjoy your five-minute walking meditation or guided meditation. Write down how you feel while you listen to your guided meditation. If you are sitting down, listen carefully to the guided meditation with your eyes closed. Write down the words, “thank you” or what you are grateful for in those five minutes.

Meditate with your cup of coffee or tea. Remain silent and enjoy your hot drink. Read about meditation while you drink your coffee or tea. Organize your office desk for five minutes after having your hot cup of coffee or tea. Be silent organizing and continue your work after your break. 

Continue feeling relaxed while you work. Watch outside the window to see the wind, the rain, the leaves, and the birds. Observe the birds, insects, and your surroundings safely outside for five minutes a day. Connecting with nature makes you feel calmer and appreciate the things that are around you. Do not forget to smile and to slow down. 

Do things that make you feel relaxed and make you feel at peace. Write down what you feel, and what you are thankful for, and write if it helps you to release stress. Practice yoga if you want to relax your muscles and release tension from your body. Sing a song in your mind or softly to relax. Instead of shouting at your kids, family members, or anyone; Read a book, do a counting meditation, or repeat a positive affirmation. 

Play a game for five minutes or less to relieve your stress such as solitaire or any other card game. Sing a song while you are washing your hands to have a good mood. National Stationery Week

 

National Stationery Week is from May 15th through May 21st which is celebrated every year. Take your time in selecting your stationery based on the type of paper and occasion. Often it is best to have a handwritten note to remind you what you have to do throughout your entire day. Today I have created a to-do list that you can cut in half with scissors. You can put your to-do list on the refrigerator with magnets or on a clipboard. 

Also, on a cork board with push pins. Making a to-do list is one aspect of stationery. National Stationery Week began in 2013. This week is devoted to using your stationery and purchasing stationery for handwriting letters, journals, and to-do lists. After that make your list of things you have to do and put it in a place where you will be reminded of important events.

Mother's Day Meal

 


Seafood meals are easy to prepare and to make. It only takes approximately twenty-five to thirty minutes to cook fish on the stove. Catfish are good for the cardiovascular system, nervous system, and the ocular system. Due to its Omega-3 fatty acids it is helpful for the brain and to lower your cholesterol. Additionally, it has vitamin B12, vitamin D, potassium, and other minerals.

It provides protein and may prevent anemia. Also, it helps you to maintain your weight. In this example the catfish was paired with a cucumber salad along with lemon slices. This meal makes a good meal for Mother’s Day or for any other occasion. Here is the recipe for making this meal.

Preparation and Cooking Time:

Wash and slice the bell peppers and onions. In one skillet add the sliced bell peppers and onions. Then, add extra virgin olive oil or water depending on how you cook the catfish. Add the following spices to the catfish: Ginger, Curry, Turmeric, Ground Black Pepper, Dill Seeds, and the Tarragon leaves. Next add garlic using a garlic presser.

Then, cook the catfish for twenty-five to thirty minutes. While the catfish is cooking, make the cucumber salad. Wash and slice a cucumber. Slice bell peppers and slice onions. After that in one bowl, add the sliced cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, and the sliced onions. 

Add a little bit of apple cider vinegar, ground black pepper, and a little bit of lemon juice. Once the catfish is ready, serve the catfish with the cucumber salad. Wash one lemon and slice the lemon. Add lemon slices to each plate. This meal serves two people. 

Fish lasts three to four days in the refrigerator. Make sure you save you leftover fish separate from the cucumber salad. You can serve this meal with iced tea, hot tea, or with hot coffee. As well as with a small bowl of soup on the side. Happy Mother's Day in advance!

National Wear Purple for Peace Day


Every year on May 16th, it is National Wear Purple Day. This day is to bring peace and to be at peace with everyone. Also, to be at peace with yourself. You can practice meditating for peaceful thoughts for yourself and others. Light a candle or use a battery-operated candle to be silent for a few minutes. 


Peace is a feeling that is always strived for but sometimes taken for granted. Take your time to feel peace in your garden, at home, or work. Slow down to appreciate the silence. Relax your body and mind on this day while focusing on peaceful things. Repeat the words, "I am in Peace" and breathe slowly. Wear purple on this day by wearing a purple bracelet, ribbon, or shirt to bring awareness for peace. 


Practice mindfulness and concentrate on doing things peacefully. Find a place where you feel at peace in your home. Self-reflect and give thanks for that hour of peace. Listen to instrumental music, chimes, water sounds, or other nature sounds to relax. Remain in silence while you observe your garden or any room in your home. 


Additionally, peace can be achieved by being self-aware of what you do and how others feel when they are near you. Connect your thoughts with your mind. Then connect those same thoughts with your heart. Focus on peace. Allow yourself to feel peace for a few moments and let go of negativity.

Salad with Clover Sprouts


Clover sprouts make a good addition to your salads and sandwiches. Eating clover sprouts provides your body with calcium, iron, and magnesium. It has phosphorus, vitamin C, vitamin K, and antioxidants. Consuming clover sprouts may lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Additionally, it is a good source of protein.

It adds fiber and it may prevent anemia as well as prevent cancer. Using clover sprouts help you to lose weight and helps with PMS. Also, it has an earthy flavor which makes any vegetable sandwich taste delicious and comforting. A simple sandwich recipe is by adding cream cheese to toasted bread with sliced cucumbers, kale, and clover sprouts. Then, add chicken noodle soup on the side or your favorite soup to go with your vegetable sandwich.

Iron, zinc, and selenium are also found in clover sprouts which are important minerals for the blood and bones. Therefore, there are so many benefits for adding clover sprouts to your meals. Always eat it in moderation. Also, consult with your primary doctor if you can add clover sprouts to your meals. Here is the recipe for making this salad with clover sprouts.

Ingredients:

Kale

One English cucumbers

Clover sprouts

One red bell pepper

One or two tomatoes

Olives with pimentos

Salad Dressings

Preparation and Toss the Salad:

Wash and slice the English cucumbers. Wash and remove the seeds from the bell peppers. Wash and slice the tomatoes. After that add the cucumbers, bell peppers, and tomatoes in a bowl with kale leaves. Then, add olives with pimentos and the clover sprouts.

Add the salad dressing to the salad. Toss the salad. This salad serves two or three people. It makes a good side salad for any meal. Enjoy!

National Recommitment Month


National Recommitment Month is in May of every year. This month can be devoted to being motivated to commit to your health, career, marriage, friendships, family, and other goals. Commit to something you want to change, improve, or accomplish. Follow a sleep schedule, eating schedule, or a schedule you can use to improve your health. Take classes to improve your job skills. 


Make a planner, vision board, or a list of what you want to improve in your life. Depending on your aspirations, you can change what you believe will help you reach your accomplishments in a successful manner. However, consider your time, education, finances, health, and your family, especially if you want to try a new dream you want to fulfill. Make changes because you want to make the change and not for anyone else. After brainstorming what you want to change, stick to the new habits that you will create in your lifestyle. For example, you can plan to eat healthier and eat less junk food as part of your new commitment.


Another dedication is by making new habits in your relationships. Work on your relationships so everyone feels comfortable, feels at peace, and feels less negative in conversations. It is necessary to create new habits such as being attentive and concentrating on what they tell you in conversation. Listen to them more if all they need is your company and for you to listen to them. If you are married, improve your marriage by arguing less and to be there for your partner for their emotional support.


Sign up for new classes at your community college or at your university to progress your job skills. Network with your friends if you cannot find a job or ask them to help you in your job search if it is possible. Limit your goals in your list and eliminate the goals that have failed. Do not have expectations. Often your goals will lead you to a different path that you may not have expected but it will lead you to success.


Trust yourself and empower yourself to be challenged. Make one commitment until it is accomplished. Liberate your mind from negative thoughts and self-doubts. Be responsible, have respect, and plan your objectives with careful consideration. Do not give up and hope for the best.
