End of the Year: Celebrate Still Need to Do Day
Every year on
December 29th, you can begin to finish your uncompleted projects. Still Need To
Do Day is a day to check off everything or half of the items that are on your
to-do list that you keep postponing or have not had the time to complete it.
Nevertheless, it can also be a day to add self-care to your to-do list besides
completing your unfinished household projects or work projects. Set aside five
minutes or thirty minutes out of your to-do list day to practice self-care. It
is necessary to add self-care especially if you know that your day is going to
be too busy to have some time for yourself.
Still Need To Do
Day can be a fulfilling day but make sure you do not stress out too much when
you are completing items on your to-do list. The end of the year can be stressful,
especially if you are trying to complete everything that needs to be done
before the new year begins. However, take one item at a time from your to-do
list. Do select the items that are a priority and save items that can be
completed the next day. Nonetheless, make a to-do list that you can follow and
take breaks in between completing your to-do list items.
Often to-do lists
can make you feel stressed out. Yet, if you make a to-do list that is short,
you will be able to complete everything on your to-do list while reducing your
stress. Another way is by writing your to-do list on index cards. Select one or
two index cards to write down what needs to be completed before your New Year's
Eve celebration. Also, have your family members to help you complete your
household cleaning or organizing your kitchen pantry.
Split your
household chores into segments. For example, have someone finish sewing buttons
or hemming pants while you mop the kitchen floor. Play music while you finish
your household chores or gardening. Another way is to make your to-do list with
bright colored paper and pin it on your cork board. Make sure you have an area
to see your to-do list as you continue to focus on your household chores.
Sometimes rushing
to complete everything from your to-do list can be difficult to enjoy the
holidays. Yet, create an organizing system that can help you to relax and focus
on keeping your home ready for the holidays. If there are a lot of household
chores for one day, do not feel guilty if you must order takeout food. Be aware
of what can be completed and use color paper clips with index cards to assign
household chores to every family member. The next day you can schedule a
repairperson appointment or make other appointments.
It is best to
have five or ten items from your to-do list completed before tackling other
to-do list items. Avoid distractions by telling your friends or family members
that you will call them later because of your to-do list items. Sometimes
multitasking can be distracting and can make you feel nervous. Other
distractions such as watching television or cellphone notifications can prevent
you from completing your household chores. Do make a to-do list and a fun list
before completing your unfinished projects.
After you have
completed five or ten items from your to-do list, look at your fun list and do
something that makes you feel distracted for one hour. Doing something that is
distracting can help you reduce your stress with laughter, relaxation, or to
smile before continuing your to-do list. At the end of the day, do a self-care
activity or a mindfulness activity to slow down. Rewrite your to-do list by
adding the remaining items that you will do the next day. Practice positive
affirmations before doing your household chores.
Give positive feedback after a household chore is completed. Keep a jar with positive compliments and have everyone pick up a positive compliment to read aloud. As well as taking a break from cleaning by coloring, reading, or other fun activities. Drink water and write your positive feedback in your journal. Here is an example of a fun list that can be completed after you finish your to-do list items.
- Watch a comedy movie or a television show and write down a funny line for your journal.
- Review your junk mail online or your paper junk mail before making telephone calls.
- Return your telephone calls and have a thoughtful conversation with a family member or friend.
- Doodle, sketch, or draw with charcoal and practice mindfulness as you draw for one hour.
- Play a card game or have teatime with your journal.
- Dance for one hour and smile as you dance.
- Brush your hair or wash your hair slowly.
- Try a new hobby or schedule time to exercise.
- Read a comedy or romance novel and select words to write a poem.
- Make soup or try a new recipe for dinner.
Do not stress out
if you make mistakes in cleaning or organizing. If you do not finish everything
on your to-do list, try to remain calm. But do be determined to complete your
to-do list items within a week or over the weekend. Thank your friends or family
members that helped you with your household chores. Find a balance between
to-do list items, self-care, and activities that make you joyful.
Transform your
day into a fun, cheerful, and productive day. Still Need To Do Day can be
celebrated by preparing a to-do list with self-care and with a list of
distractions. Often a fun list can make you motivated to complete your to-do
list items. Be calm, prepared, and ready to proceed with your to-do list items
without worrying about feeling unproductive. Here are websites with more
