National Tell a Fairy Tale Day 2026 & Fantasy Poetry
Every
year on February 26th is National Tell a Fairy Tale Day. It is a day to
encourage reading and to spend family time together by having fun. As well as
finding ways to read without feeling boredom, sleepy, lack of interest, or
other negative feelings. You can read a fairy tale story in the form of a poem.
Additionally, you can make a fairy tale story book by taking pictures of random
objects, drawing cartoons, or making a puppet play with your fairy tale story.
Draft a story.
Then, act out the fairy tale story with a dance and by acting out the movements
of the characters. Add music to help you dance to the fairy tale story.
Celebrate National Tell a Fairy Tale Day by decorating your dining room with a
fairy tale theme. Also, decorate your living room with a fairy tale theme by
adding a fairy print set or making your fairy print set with your child's
artwork.
Create an area
that is screen-free by having books by themes and decorating your child's
bookshelf. Use pop-up books, fairy tale puzzles that match with the fairy tale
books, or fairy tale book series to read every month. Decorate one side of the
wall with a fantasy wall mural in the bedroom or in your garden. Make fantasy
bookmarks, binder cover pages, or a fairy tale pencil holder. Purchase a fairy
tale wallpaper or cut out a section of the fairy tale wallpaper to decorate
your picture frames with your fairy tale poetry.
To create fantasy
poetry, think about what your child likes such as fairy tale animals, mythical
animals, castles, and other themes. You can write a simple poem or poetry with
rhyming words. However, you can write a poem about what they are struggling
with in school and motivate them. Also, your child can learn about metaphors,
symbolism, and rhyming words by writing poetry. Make words of encouragement by
selecting phrases or quotes from children's fantasy books.
Have a journal to
write words of encouragement. Read the words of encouragement to help you write
a fairy tale poem. Add glitter, stickers, or paint to decorate your poetry
picture frame. Read a fairy tale poem at night or in the morning to feel
inspired. Lastly, celebrate National Tell a Fairy Tale Day before or after
dinner and bake cookies based on fairy tale stories.
Paint a fairy
tale wall or make a fairy tale art gallery with mirrors, fairy lights, and
vintage faux flowers. Make hot cocoa with marshmallows, dark cocoa sprinkles,
or chocolate syrup and whip cream with hot cocoa. Read slowly or have them read
at their pace. Draft a fairy tale poem. Write it many times and read it aloud.
Here is my example of a fairy tale poem.
After you are done writing
your fairy tale poem, you can frame it on a small frame or make a scrapbook
picture frame with your poem. Ensure the fantasy poem is appropriate and
inspiring. Sign up for reading community events, poetry clubs for your
children, or reading events from the library to encourage reading. Nonetheless,
participate in story time at home, reading bingo card games, a reading chart,
or a reading hour that is screen-free. Here are websites with more ideas for
