Sleep: Public Naps, College, & Sleep Tips 2026 (National Public Sleeping Day)

On February 28th, you can take a short nap for ten to twenty minutes on National Public Sleeping Day. National Public Sleeping Day is about taking naps in public. Slow down to get a few minutes of sleep especially if you are feeling tired and cannot resist taking a short nap after long work hours. Also, bring awareness of sleep deprivation on this day and about your experiences of taking naps in public places. Be cautious when taking public naps and ensure your safety before falling asleep. 

Often taking naps in college might be helpful for you to stay awake before taking a quiz or a test. Make sure you put your belongings in a safe area before taking a nap in college. Do not leave any drinks unattended, especially if you use the table to take a nap. Also, keep your keys, money, and other valuables in a safe place. Keep food away from the table and make sure there are no insects on the table. 

Wear bug repellent. Make sure you sit in a comfortable position to take a nap. Often waking up with neck pain can occur after taking a nap. Use a pillow or a neck pillow before taking a nap. However, if you do not have a pillow, you can do a self-massage on your neck. 

Use an alarm clock on your cellphone and set it up for ten or twenty minutes before taking a nap. Wear a sleep mask to help you take a nap. If you are afraid of taking naps in public, you can have a trustworthy friend. Your friend can keep an eye on your homework, college supplies, or other belongings. Public naps can also be done in a group. 

If you are doing homework, make sure you keep your pencils, highlighters, or pens in another area before taking a nap. Make sure you have your rulers, erasers, or other college supplies in a safe area. Besides that, avoid having a nap too close to your bedtime. Also remove your headphones before taking a nap. Purchase headphones that are built for sleep. Bring a throw blanket to help you take a nap. 

If you have a sleep disorder, sleep issues, or have sleep deprivation; Do speak to your primary physician or to a sleep specialist. Do not drive if you have sleep deprivation. Avoid caffeine or other stimulants. Be cautious about taking naps in public places especially if there are not enough lit areas. Nonetheless, naps can be done in college if they do not distract others from studying or doing homework. 

Consult with your primary physician before taking a nap. Also, if you sleep with your mouth open, your feet fall asleep, or your hands fall asleep; Do notify your primary physician about it. Taking public naps in college is possible and can help you to focus more on class.
