Nature Meditation, Nature Mindfulness, & Tips
Sometimes
when there is too much on your mind, you might want to find quick ways to
meditate for one or five minutes. One example is by using a wooden piece for
meditation. Make sure it has a smooth surface to prevent wood splinters. Find a
comfortable area to sit and to stare at the wooden piece. Next, notice the
wooden patterns, wooden lines, and the shapes the wooden piece has.
Observe how you feel. The
longer you stare at the wooden piece, you might see visual images that the
wooden lines create. Another way is to sit on a chair or on your bed while
looking at the wooden floor. Continue looking at the wooden floor and do deep breathing.
Staring at a wooden piece or a wooden floor can become a focal point for
meditation and for mindfulness.
You can use a wooden puzzle
and look at the edges of the puzzle. Slowly put the puzzle pieces together. Do
not rush to put the wooden puzzle pieces together. Instead focus on the puzzle
image. If the plain wooden puzzle is dimensional, you can paint the wooden
puzzle as you practice mindfulness.
Nature meditation can be
done by surrounding yourself with wood scented essential oils or wood scented
incense. Stare at nature photography for five minutes and visualize yourself
standing in the natural landscape. If you get the opportunity to visit hiking
trails, hike in a group and prepare your hiking trail in advance. During your
hiking break, make sure you are in a safe area to sit and observe your
surroundings. Continue hiking in silence and pace yourself as you walk.
If you find a place that
motivates you to sit and look at the scenery, take a break and write in your
journal. Take pictures of the leaves, rocks, and other things that inspire you
to meditate in nature. Use natural lighting to take pictures and being in
silence can help you relax. Bring snacks and stay hydrated as you walk on your
hiking trail. Sit down and focus on your breathing as you use your senses
outdoors.
Be available to look at the
trees, rivers, streams, and other natural landscapes. Practice gratitude. If
you go on a meditation retreat, participate in a nature meditation, Yoga in
nature, or other mind and body exercises. Feel the cold wet dirt on your feet
and hands during a mud bath at your meditation retreat and spa. At night, say
thank you or thank you affirmations before and after your meditation
retreat.
Meditating in
nature during the summer season or anytime of the year can increase your
self-awareness and experience nature more with your senses. Listen to guided
meditations as you spend time outdoors. Wear comfortable shoes and do exercises
for balance. Prepare for any weather changes and carry items that you might
