Skin Care: Pink Salt, Essential Oils, and Affirmations (Self-Care)


During stressful times, self-care activities for skin care can be helpful for practicing mindfulness. Also as part of relaxing activities at home such as a spa day. Pink salt comes in a thick texture, fine, and extra fine which can be used for hand scrubs or body scrubs. However, before using Himalayan Pink Salt, do a patch test on a small area of your skin. Ensure you have no paper cuts before using Himalayan Pink Salt. 

You can use essential oils, carrier oil, and Himalayan Pink Salt as a hand scrub. Use warm water or cold water to wet your hands and to rinse off the salt. Before making your hand scrub, select an essential oil that you like. Lavender essential oil, Eucalyptus oil essential oil, Sandalwood essential oil, Orange essential oil, or other citrus essential oils can be used for your salt scrubs. Yet, ensure you dilute your essential oil before using it with salt or sugar scrubs. 

Blend the selected essential oil, coconut oil, and the pink salt. Also, have a bottle of lotion with essential oils to apply after the salt scrub. If you have sensitive skin on your face or a skin condition, always consult with your dermatologist or primary care physician. Nonetheless, make sure you have damp skin before applying the salt scrub. Slowly apply the salt scrub and apply it gently. 

Look at the color of the salt scrub. Smell the essential oil that you selected. Make gentle circular motions while focusing on the texture of the salt scrub. Wash off the salt scrub and use a hand towel. Feel the hand towel and dry your hands as you say "I am calm, prepared, and thankful for this day."

Hang a positive affirmation in front of the bathroom mirror before practicing mindfulness with salt scrubs. Choose a theme for your positive affirmation. Use color pens, a happy face sticker, or a sticker that makes you feel cheerful. Write the positive affirmation on an index card and add a sticker to the index card. Another option is to write an affirmation on stationary paper and laminate it.

Tape or hang the positive affirmation in the bathroom. Personalize your affirmations to help you meditate or practice mindfulness before using your salt scrubs. For example you can use the name of the essential oil to inspire you to write positive affirmations. Additionally, use your senses to help you write positive affirmations before using the salt scrubs. Below are positive affirmations inspired by essential oils. 

1. I accept myself like a beautiful lavender field that blooms on its own scent. 

2. I release disappointments and welcome vanilla scents to make me feel hopeful. 

3. I received sweet lemons and continue to work with optimism. 

4. I intend to smile like sweet oranges.

5. I release my sadness as I focus on my accomplishments. 

6. I intend to focus and relax more. 

7. I accept self-love, self-worth, and self-kindness like a field of sweet scents.

8. I am beautiful, grateful, and courageous like  mint leaves. 

9. I am persistent, refreshed, and ready to reset my positive energy. 

10. I am calm, I am joyful, and I am honest with myself. 

After saying affirmations and drying your hands, you will feel refreshed and relaxed. You can do salt scrubs once a month or once a week. Nevertheless, if you get an allergic reaction to the salt scrub; Stop using it and consult with your primary care physician. Also, you can practice affirmations with sugar scrubs.
