Every first
Friday in October is World Smile Day. However, this year is a little bit
different due to the pandemic. Yet, World Smile Day can still be celebrated
this year by wearing face masks with a smile painted on it. Recently, when I
was doing my errands, I saw a man wearing a premade mask with a dog smile in
front of the mask. Somehow, it made me smile and realize that we can continue
to smile through difficult times.
World Smile
day also brings awareness for small acts of kindness. It may not seem that much,
but it helps you feel comforted when people do acts of kindness for you and for
others. For example, when I began my first job a few years ago, I was so
excited to start working at an office. I got there on time thinking that was
going to be the best day of work. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to find out
there was no work for that day after waiting outside in front of the building.
However,
there was a man there waiting for the company to open as well and handed me a
cup of coffee from the nearest coffee shop. After that I thanked him for his
kind gesture and told him that the company was closed for the day. It was
something unexpected and yet it made me feel a little bit better from feeling
disappointed. Yet, there are so many ways to celebrate World Smile Day even if
you can not buy someone a cup of coffee. You can draw a happy face on a piece
of paper or onto a blank card and mail it to someone.
Also, you
can buy happy face stickers and put it on your child’s sandwich bag or on the
outside of their lunch bag. Besides, that you can find coloring pages to
celebrate World Smile Day online. You can also take a selfie with your best
smile. No matter how you celebrate World Smile Day make sure it is the best day
