Donating Your Hair

Alopecia is a hair disorder that affects one hundred and sixty million people worldwide. This hair disorder occurs when the immune system attacks the hair follicles due to stress, hormone changes, or genetics. But this is not the only hair disorder that creates hair loss. Five common hair disorders cause baldness, scarring, hair shedding, hair infections, and hair breakage. Yet, hair loss can happen due to hormonal imbalances, certain medications, cancer treatments, nervousness, or from untreated STDs.

However, donating hair to charity can make someone feel self-confident and feel contented with a natural hair wig. It takes about ten or twenty ponytails to make a wig for children or an adult experiencing hair loss from an illness. Therefore, if you are cutting your hair to a short length, you might want to donate your hair to charity. Also, some charities make wigs for burn victims and for people who are going through cancer treatments. Before you cut your hair, ask your hairdresser if you want to donate your hair.

You can also do research online to find a charity that accepts donated hair for making wigs. The charity website will have a form with the mailing address to mail your hair. Make sure the mailing address on the form matches the mailing address on the website. Also, read the instructions carefully before mailing your hair to your selected charity. Be careful of hair frauds online.

Donating your hair to charity can make a beautiful wig for someone who needs it. Your hairdresser can make your hair in a ponytail or a braid. Before the hair gets donated to charity make sure your hair is clean and dry. It is recommended to wash your hair with a gentle shampoo such as baby shampoo or a soft-scented shampoo. Keep in mind that your hair must be approximately ten inches long before donating it to charity.

It takes about one or two years to grow long hair. However, knowing that your hair will be part of a wig for someone is an act of kindness, an act of caring, and helping someone feel better. The whole month of August is devoted to National Hair Loss Awareness Month. You can donate your hair to charity and purchase hair products that donate to hair loss charities. Additionally, you can read about hair loss and bring awareness.

Hair loss is a traumatic experience for anyone. Yet, a natural hair wig can build someone's self-esteem and self-confidence. As well as boosting one's mood and continuing to beat cancer or another illness. Hair is more than beauty because it makes you feel special and healthier. Here are resources about hair loss.
