Light Your Home in Teal (National Alzheimer's Awareness Month 2024)
From 2021, the color teal is used to light porches of homes, landmarks, and some businesses for Alzheimer’s awareness. Light your home with a teal light bulb to bring awareness of Alzheimer’s this month. Also, by wearing a teal bracelet, a teal t-shirt, or another teal accessory for starting a conversation about Alzheimer’s. The color teal is a combination of blue and green which has a calming effect. This color was chosen for National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness month by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America; This color is part of the campaign, "Light the World in Teal."
It is encouraging to use the color teal for your light porch to bring awareness of Alzheimer’s. You can wear a teal ribbon as well as using teal battery-operated lanterns in your garden. It is estimated that more than fifty-five million people are living with dementia and seven million people are living with Alzheimer’s. It is necessary to be informed and to get the resources needed to understand and help take care of someone who is living with Alzheimer’s. As well as participating in awareness campaigns, donating for more research, and helping caregivers to find support.
Dedicate some time to thank a caregiver and to show your support. Being a caregiver can be tough at certain times, and it can be an unforgettable gift to the family. The entire month of November is also National Family Caregiver Month. It is essential to have a calendar or a schedule as a caregiver. As well as showing your understanding and compassion towards the person that you are caregiving.
Additionally, as a caregiver one needs to get information regarding the form of Alzheimer’s to give better care to the person that you are taking care of. During the holidays, it can become more stressful as a caregiver. Therefore, you can help a caregiver with the cleaning, cooking, or with the shopping to reduce their stress. Nonetheless, being a caregiver can be a positive aspect for the entire family and for the person who is living with Alzheimer’s. It is important to take breaks as a caregiver and to do self-care.
Wear teal this month and use a battery-operated tea light candle in teal in memory of someone that you know who had Alzheimer’s. Make a gift basket with a thank you card, make a thank you meal, or help a caregiver. Give a spa day package, give time off, or get more caregivers if needed to reduce the caregiving stress. Participate in a walking or jogging marathon for Alzheimer’s awareness and to donate for further research.
