DIY Closet Essential Oil Sachet

There are so many ways to make essential oil sachets to deodorize your closet, drawers, or any other item that needs to be freshened. Using leftover scrap fabric and other trimmings, you can make your own personalized sachets. Since the 15th century, sachets were used to perfume clothes that could not be washed. The sachets were filled with spices such as vanilla, cinnamon sticks, and herbs. Now, sachets are filled with cotton, potpourri, essential oils, or with rice.

These do it yourself sachets are made of leftover fabric and cotton balls in the shape of a heart. However, sachets can be made into a square shape especially for the drawers. After the fabric heart is made, soak cotton balls in your favorite essential oil. It is recommended to use floral-scented essential oils such as lavender, freesia, lilac to deodorize your drawers or closets. Then, place the cotton balls inside the tiny pocket of the heart.

This tutorial will show you how to make a heart shape essential oil sachet stitched by hand for your closet. However, you can put this heart shape sachet in your drawers without the hanging ribbon. You can also add buttons, charms, and other embellishments. These sachets make great gifts for your family, friends, and for yourself. Nonetheless, here is the tutorial for making these sachets.

Materials:

Needles
Embroidery needles
Embroidery thread
Regular thread
Leftover fabric
Scissors
One bag of cotton balls
Essential Oil-any scent
Buttons
1/4 in X 10 Yards of ribbon or 1/8 in X 10 yards of ribbon
Sweetness Meditations Heart Stencil

First, print out the heart stencil. Second, cut the stencil. Third, trace the paper heart onto the fabric. You will need two fabric hearts. Fourth, sew the fabric heart. Fifth, before closing the fabric heart, add cotton balls inside it.

Sixth, close the fabric heart. After that sew the ribbon on both sides of the fabric heart. In the center of the heart, sew one end of the ribbon, and loop the ribbon. Trim the leftover ribbon. Continue sewing the ends of the ribbon.

Sew a button. Using leftover fabric, cut the fabric into a rectangle or a square. Then, sew the rectangle or the square on all three sides. The fourth side will be open to insert the cotton ball soaked in essential oils. Sew ribbon on the top side of the rectangle or the square.

Last, sew the mini pocket onto the fabric heart using embroidery thread. Insert one or two cotton balls soaked in an essential oil inside the small pocket. Using the hanging ribbon, you can hang this onto a hanger and hang it in your closet. Another way is by hanging the sachet onto a nail on the wall of the closet. Replace the cotton balls from the pocket when it loses its scent.

Besides, using cotton balls, you can cut a few strips of fabric softener sheets to put inside the mini pocket of the sachet with your essential oil. Here are more resources and other ideas for making sachets. Below the links, you will find the heart stencil. Have fun sewing! Thank you for reading my blog.
