Music, Writing Poetry, and Mindfulness

Writing poetry as you listen to music can be inspiring and can make you be filled with excitement. Additionally, writing music lyrics can be fun by writing it in the form of poetry. You can rhyme and do repetition when you write your songs or your poetry. Yet, you can also practice mindfulness by writing poetry and listening to music. It helps you use your senses and can help you become more aware of your emotions.

Reading poetry slowly and focusing on words can help you practice mindfulness. Before you begin reading, make sure you are alert and ready to feel the poet's emotions. Next, inhale and exhale slowly as you open the poetry book. After that, read each stanza and visualize what is being read. Concentrate on the present moment and repeat what was read aloud.

Another way is to sing the poem that you have read. Sing the poem aloud and take a pause after each stanza. Repeat your favorite poetry stanza as part of the song. Play soft instrumental music as you sing the poem. Focus on your breathing and how your throat feels as you sing.

Be aware of how you feel and not how you sound when you sing. It is recommended not to feel uncomfortable and self-conscious of singing out of the tunes. However, practicing listening to mindfulness does make you aware of sounds and your senses; Yet, listening with mindfulness makes you open to the sounds without worrying about how you sing. Nevertheless, music, poetry, and mindfulness can be practiced together by worrying less of your writing mistakes, singing errors, or other worries of playing an instrument. Playing an instrument is also helpful for practicing listening mindfulness.

Read or sing your poem many times. Practice music, poetry, and mindfulness for five minutes or thirty minutes in the morning. During the weekend, select a poetry book or collect poems you have written. Then, dedicate some time to listening to the words without getting distracted. Last, this can be practiced at night before you go to sleep.

Combining music and poetry can also help you feel creative. You can hum a song and then read your selected poetry to help you relax. Write in your journal and use journal prompts about music and poetry. Write the words you like from poetry that you read or sing. As well as using those words for your positive affirmations or for phrases to help you feel calm.

Record yourself singing a song or a poem. Close your eyes and listen to yourself sing. Additionally, you can record yourself by reading a poem or various poems. Concentrate on what you hear and write in your journal on how you feel. Here are websites about music and poetry.
