Celebrating Poet's Day & Ideas

Every year on August 21st is Poet's Day. Poet's Day is dedicated to being inspired by poetry. It is a day to read about the life of a poet, read famous poetry, and write your poetry. You can celebrate Poet's Day with your children and family by introducing them to famous poetry that can be inspirational. Also, by helping them write their poetry or writing a collaboration.

Collaboration poetry is a fun and creative way to practice writing poems in a group. One person starts the poem, and the rest of the writers continue writing the same poem as the person started. It does not have to be written in the same poetry style. Yet, collaborating poems describe various thoughts and can be written in one or two hours. Also, drawings, pictures, or calligraphy can be added to the collaboration poetry.

Another way to celebrate Poet's Day is by listening to classical music or other instrumental music as you visualize yourself as a hero for your fantasy poetry. The fantasy poetry is descriptive, narrative, or it can be dramatic. As well as telling a story encourages you to use your imagination. You can also collaborate with fantasy poetry or use journal prompts to help you discover your creativity. Lastly, fantasy poetry can be romantic, comedy, or in another genre.

Use a list from a crossword puzzle. Select words from the crossword list to write your poem. In the example, a fantasy poem was written using the list of a crossword puzzle. The crossword puzzle list was taken from a Woman's World magazine. Nevertheless, you can write your crossword poetry in any poetry style.

You can meditate as you listen to the music. Draw, paint, or make puppets go with the poem. Read the life of a poet and read famous poetry slowly. If you are writing your poetry, you can also write a short biography about your life to go with the poems. Make a poetry book with your handwritten or typed poems.

Poetry journals can be made by cutting out words from magazines and gluing the words together onto blank pages. Additionally, you can rip out pages and cross out the words with a black marker. Glue the poems that you make by practicing found poetry or blackout poetry. Poetry journals are also inspirational, motivational, and encouraging to have on your nightstand. Finally, a poetry journal can be meaningful, memorable, and can help you express yourself through poetry.

If you like to dance, you can also write a poem and dance while someone is reciting the poem. You can write dramatic poetry. Dramatic poetry is written to be recited and acted out as a short theatrical play. Make sure the theatrical dramatic poetry is edited, and the monologue is easy to understand for younger siblings to participate in the dramatic poetry. Nonetheless, here are websites about famous poetry, fantasy poetry, and other poetry tips.
