BK2HK Week 2026 & College Ideas
The
last week of August is dedicated to Be Kind to Humankind Week. This week is
about being considerate, caring, sharing, and helping. Each day has a theme to
help you practice kindness and to help others. Since 1988, Lara Jara founded Be
Kind to Humankind Week. The week begins on August 25th through August
31st.
Use the hashtag,
BK2HK and # Be Kind to Humankind Week for Be Kind to Humankind Week. This week
can be practiced in college by using the daily themes for the week, being kind,
and having a kindness awareness college booth. As well as bringing awareness of
this week by including kind quotes in your emails, text messages, or displaying
kindness quotes on the front of your binders. Think about how you can help
someone or several people each day of the Be Kind to Humankind Week. Here is a
list of the themes and ideas to help you focus on practicing kindness, sharing,
helping, or consideration.
- Monday-Driving and Traveling with Courtesy by using your turn signals and driving without distractions.
- Tuesday- Touch a Heart by doing acts of kindness in college and getting to know new college classmates.
- Wednesday- Lend a Hand by adding an extra quarter or dollar, so they can get coffee, water, or hot chocolate from the vending machine.
- Thursday- Being Thoughtful by donating extra items that have not been used.
- Friday- Forgive Someone by writing a self-reflective letter to the person that hurt you in college. After you are done writing it, shred it with a paper shredder.
- Saturday- Speak Nice Words by encouraging someone or others to continue their college success.
- Sunday-Sacrifice Our Wants for Others' Needs by doing something kind to others without doing something for yourself first.
On Monday, make
sure the car windows are cleaned, and the rear-view mirrors are cleaned before
your family member drives the family car. Take the car to the car wash and
do carpooling with your college classmates. Then on Tuesday, offer to sit with
someone in the college cafeteria or in the college library. Have a
conversation with a new college student. You can make new friendships and help
them feel less loneliness in college.
Yet, on
Wednesday, give them an extra sheet of paper, an index card, or two new pencils
so they can take notes in class, which is another way to start new friendships.
Also, to practice kindness in college, offer to help with school supplies that
you no longer use but in good condition. Lower the volume of your
headphones before they tell you especially if both of you are studying
languages, speech, or grammar. While on Thursday, send appreciation notes,
letters, or appreciation job referrals. Take notes for a college classmate
that missed a class or make a check-in telephone call and update them about the
college class both of you are taking.
Maintain your
boundaries and practice forgiveness and inner peace on Friday. Reconnect with
them and give them a second chance if both of you want to continue the
friendship after doing the forgiveness. It can be a self-reflective day and a
day of kindness for both of you. Then on Saturday, wear T-shirts with kind
words that are encouraging and optimistic to start a conversation with your
college classmates. Give extra T-shirts with kind words to your college
classmates to practice kindness and ask permission from your college before
having a free items table.
Alternatively,
paint the word, kind onto a T-shirt and have fun painting together. Finally on
Sunday, help someone study without rushing to do something for yourself.
Participate in a college kindness club for college students to help new
students to be comfortable on college campuses. Make a banner for Be Kind
to Humankind Week to bring awareness of kindness into your college campus. Have
extra friendship bracelets, necklaces, or journals with kind words.
Lastly, Be Kind
to Humankind Week in college by practicing awareness and focusing on helping
others with kindness. Also, post images or short stories on social media for Be
Kind to Humankind Week. Ask permission to have a Be Kind to Humankind Week table
in college with free school supplies, gently worn clothes, and other items that
can be used for college. Alternatively, clean your cafeteria table after eating
so other college students can use a clean table for eating. Here are websites
