Taking a Break: National Just Because Day & Having Fun
Taking
a break can be done for relaxation, reducing stress, and for changing one’s
daily routines. However, you can also practice spontaneous tasks for changing
your routine at work, at home, or at the university. Every year on August 27th
is National Just Because Day. This day was created in the late 1950's as a
family holiday and for having a fun time. Joseph J. Goodwin dedicated his time
to his family and made it a family tradition to celebrate Just Because Day.
National Just Because Day
can be an opportunity to do something fun with your family and friends. Yet
being spontaneous can be challenging at times, especially if you have the
entire week or month planned. Nevertheless, taking a break from planned events
and doing something outside of your planner can be helpful for your mood. Doing
something naturally and without forcing it can help you improve your
self-confidence and improve your friendships. However, it takes time to be
spontaneous and to be safe while trying something new.
Practice mindfulness with
spontaneous activities at home by making an unplanned movie night with your
friends for one hour. Discuss the movie and have fun even if everyone goes off
the topics of the movie. Enjoy the present moment when doing something that was
not on your work schedule such as going to the grand opening to a nearby
restaurant at work. Another way is to communicate with someone new at your job
or someone you speak to less often due to busy schedules. Be aware of how you
feel when doing something outside of your comfort level.
It is necessary to take a
break when needed and when your body starts giving you signals to rest. day
dreaming can be useful if it is done safely and without operating heavy
machinery. Also, make sure you are not driving before day dreaming. Do creative
activities as you practice mindfulness. Another way to dedicate some time to
National Just Because Day is by reading any book from your bookshelf, wearing a
t-shirt with funny quotes, or taking a family walk together.
No matter how you take a
break, do set up one or two hours without any plans in your planner. Another
tip is to turn off electronic devices before doing something fun with the
family. In addition, surprise the family with an ice cream day, a popcorn day,
or a traditional family meal during the week. Lastly, surprise someone with a
meal to share, a care package, or other small item without having a specific
occasion. Follow up with a surprise telephone call to a friend or family
member.
Do follow your boundaries
while having fun and be motivated. National Just Because Day is a fun
opportunity to do something you want to do outside of your daily routine
without feeling monotonous. Change your meditation room, your meditation
routine, or change anything you want to do for more fun experiences.
Nonetheless, ensure your safety and listen to your surroundings when trying
something new. Here are websites about being spontaneous and creating more fun
