What is Social Mindfulness?
Practicing mindfulness for the body and mind is one way to be present at the moment. Yet, mindfulness can be practiced when you are socializing. Social mindfulness is an incredible skill to learn. It takes time to use your intuition, and senses, and to understand people socially. This type of mindfulness is useful in developing social skills and communicating better.
Social mindfulness teaches you to listen carefully to others. Even if you do not fully understand someone, you can listen attentively without judgment. Besides being kind to others, being mindful of how the other person feels and being patient with them. Listen with respect and wait for them to be open with their feelings. Sometimes there is no time to pay attention and to listen, yet mindfulness makes you slow down mentally for listening purposes.
Also, social
mindfulness goes beyond listening to a person verbally. You can use your senses
and carefully observe the people near you. As well as exercising mindful eating
in a social setting. Using proper social etiquette, manners, and social skills;
Social mindfulness permits you to develop your full attention while
communicating with multiple people or one-to-one. Learning how to read a
person's body language and being able to feel what a person is trying to tell
you.
Mindfulness at a
social level is a long process. Exercising social mindfulness with
acquaintances, friends, and family can take about thirty minutes or an hour to
do. Depending on a person's personality, attitude, and social skills can make
social mindfulness a challenge. But once a person permits you to enter their
lives in a sociable and respectful manner, you will be able to develop social
mindfulness. Observe without judgment and without comparisons.
Observe more so
you can get a better understanding of their feelings. Seeing their necessities
while taking care of them. Yet this does not mean you can forget about your
feelings and necessities. Above all knowing how to socialize in a healthy
aspect allows you to appreciate your friendships and relationships. Here are
