Yoga Poses & Bedtime

Stretching in bed in the morning helps your body to warm up before starting your day. You can do the Lotus pose, Head to Knee Pose, Cat Pose, and the Downward Dog Pose. Create a yoga routine to stretch your muscles before getting out of bed. However, stretching in bed at night helps your body to prepare itself before going to sleep. You can do Yoga poses in bed before going to sleep such as the Child’s Pose, Legs Up the Wall, Bound Angle, Knees to Chest, and Seated Forward Fold.

Before you do the standing poses in your yoga sequence, make sure your mattress is firm and you can balance yourself while standing on your mattress. You might need to arrange your bed pillows, cushions, and blankets so they do not bother you while doing your yoga poses. You can do the Dolphin Pose before standing on your mattress. Other poses can be done such as the Forward Bend Pose, Mountain Pose, and the Triangle Pose. You can do any Yoga pose if you can balance yourself on your mattress.

It is best to do these poses when you are not too sleepy. Also, make sure you modify your yoga poses especially if you have trouble balancing yourself on your mattress. If you sleep with socks, you can still do yoga poses with your socks if it is not too tight. Make sure your socks do not fall off either. They must be comfortable and well fitted so you can avoid injury.

Doing Yoga before bedtime can help you sleep better and help you relax before going to sleep. You can use aromatherapy while doing your yoga routine such as a reed diffuser or an essential oil humidifier. It is recommended to do a yoga sequence for one or two hours before going to sleep. Turn off your essential oil humidifier that is plugged in and battery operated after your yoga session. Use pillows to sit comfortably in your bed for fifteen minutes and do breathing exercises.

End your yoga session by laying down and focusing on your breathing. Write on your journal or simply lay down to cool off your body. Avoid doing yoga in bed if you have a fever, chills, and an awful cold. Wear comfortable pajamas when doing yoga in bed but make sure it is not too hot to wear when doing your yoga poses.
