Celebrating National Hot Tea Day & Meditation Tips
Drinking tea is my go-to beverage for taking a break from work, doing chores, and exercise. It helps me to slow down and to practice mindfulness. Before I drink my tea, I like to smell the delightful aroma of the tea and look at the steam. Then, I taste my tea and drink it slowly. After I am done drinking my tea, I like to say “thank you” in my mind.
Meditating with tea is relaxing and it keeps me alert, especially if I must do a perplexing task at work. Select a tea that you like to drink and in a comfortable space to drink it. Sometimes, drinking hot tea in front of your computer desk does not feel relaxing especially if you tend to check your emails while drinking your tea. Another suggestion is to drink your hot tea and stay away from the computer or other electronic devices. Nonetheless, cleaning your workspace and designating an area for drinking your hot tea at work can help you meditate.
Another recommendation is to purchase a small tray, a coaster, and a cup to use at work. Eliminate distractions such as checking emails or answering telephone calls. The best time to meditate at work is during your lunch break. Have a small table or take your cup and tray outside of work during your lunch break. If you job has a small garden, benches, or a small sitting area outside; You can practice meditating with tea in that area and feel less distracted.
Distractions can make it challenging to enjoy drinking your tea and to meditate with tea. Nonetheless, if your job does not have a snack and a hot beverage area; You can bring your hot tea in a thermos and drink your tea during your lunch break. As well as ordering hot tea from a restaurant and drinking hot tea inside the restaurant with a journal. I like to use a journal and write down my thoughts of the tea that I am drinking. Also, writing or drawing in a journal helps me relax while I am drinking my tea.
Other times, I like to read the quotes from the tags from the tea bags. Write the quotes from the tags in your journal. Listen carefully as you read aloud and meditate on the quote. Drink your tea slowly and remain in silence for two minutes. Then begin breathing slowly and feel the warmth coming from your cup.
If you are at home, add a flower arrangement to the center of your table. Add a table runner or a tablecloth before adding your flower arrangement. Next, make hot tea and drink your tea. Slowly look at your flower arrangement as you drink your hot tea. As well as concentrating on the flavor of the tea and noticing body sensations as you sit.
Additionally, you can close your eyes for a few seconds as your cup touches your lips and mouth. Taste your tea and open your eyes as you put your cup down. Count numbers in your mind and drink your tea. Repeat the numbers until you finish drinking your tea. Last, clean and wash your tea kettle, cups, and eating utensils while practicing mindfulness.
Find time to relax with tea and with coloring pages. If you drink hot tea once a day, select a mindfulness activity or a guided meditation. Listen to your guided meditation as you drink your hot tea. Put a puzzle together or work on a word search as you drink your tea. Slowly practice your mindfulness activity as you drink your hot tea.
Make your hot tea and prepare your meditation area. Add extra cushions and a picnic blanket to your living room floor. Use your travel tea set and sit comfortably on the floor. Listen to nature’s sounds as you drink your hot tea. Last, use a mantra after drinking your tea and sit for three minutes before you start doing your household chores.
