Writing & Traveling & Poetry Tips

Traveling can be fun, exciting, and can make you want to write about your traveling experiences. Sometimes, writing short poems can help you relax and remember what you saw during your travels. Reading poetry can also help you to feel inspired to write your travel poetry. However, it is recommended to write whenever you feel inspired to write about your experiences, your thoughts, and your feelings. It can be tough at first especially if you want to experience everything from your travels.

Begin by writing phrases, sentences, or words while you travel. After that take pictures of what you see during your travels. Find a comfortable sitting area to draft your poems. Review your travel pictures and use your travel pictures to write your feelings in your poetry. Sometimes, you might need to take a break to write how you feel and to do a personal reflection through your poetry.

You can experiment with various writing styles. Traveling poetry does not have to rhyme but does include visual elements so you can visualize it in your mind. Another way to write your poetry is by looking at your travel souvenirs, your ticket stubs, or other items from your trip. Write the names of the places where you went or the names of your meals; This can make your poetry feel like a short story in in a poetic format. Nonetheless, do not worry too much about the writing style but do write in detail about your trip.

After you finish drafting your poems, you can review your poems and make any changes. Write one or more words of your emotions in a list. In the same list, write down what you see and describe the items. Use metaphors, adjectives, and words to help you describe your emotions and your trip. Finally, make columns on your list.

Following your column list, you can write a haiku, narrative poem, or any other poetry style. Practice writing and organizing your thoughts. Besides making a column list, you can also use index cards to write your poems. Last, share your poetry or save your poetry in a decorative journal to remember your travels.
