World Day of Bullying Prevention & Ideas
The
first Monday of October is World Day of Bullying Prevention. It is a day to
wear a blue T-shirt or orange and blue to bring awareness to the World Day of
Bullying Prevention. World Day of Bullying Prevention can take place in the
workplace, schools, colleges, and in the universities. Inspire someone,
encourage kindness, and do activities to bring an understanding of ending
bullying. Nonetheless, sharing information on social media can be a first start
to workplace conversations or university conversations about stopping
harassment and bullying.
Show your support and appreciation to someone. Preventing bullying and harassment is possible by speaking about one’s experiences and reporting them. Also, by healing and recovering from the bullying through conversations. Wear an orange or blue bracelet with the words kindness and smiles to remind you about bullying prevention. Offer an opportunity to visit someone, to give them a greeting card, flowers, or to have a meal while being kind.
Find a corner to
display orange and blue flowers. Have a table with orange and blue tablecloths.
Then, have orange or blue pencils inside a pencil holder. After that, have a
set of cards with words of encouragement and write inside the cards. Next, have
the cards pinned or hang them onto a kindness paper tree.
Alternatively,
you can hang the cards of encouragement or gratitude cards onto an artificial
tree. Another way is by using a greeting card display stand. Have a kind corner
by adding extra pens, office supplies, or other duplicate everyday items that
all employees or students can use. Being helpful and being kind can be written
on a whiteboard as a reminder to prevent harassment or bullying. Take a break
from studying or from your job duties and spend time on complimenting with
kindness.
Hang posters,
quotes, positive affirmations, or the words kindness and respect so everyone
can see it in the workplace or university. Help someone to feel accepted in a
group of friends, in the workplace, or in the university. Orange is the
selected color for acceptance and for showing support for preventing bullying.
Blue was also selected to bring peace and to feel peaceful while you study or
are in the workplace. Additionally, blue is a calming color and orange makes
you feel positive.
Another way to
spread kindness, respect, and acceptance is by using bullying prevention social
media graphics in your Zoom meetings. Bullying can occur which can be stopped
by reporting inappropriate behavior, comments, jokes, or hand gestures. Virtual
chats, messenger, and other applications where you can send messages can also
be reported to the authorities. Cyberbullying can be stopped and prevented by
having a technology pledge. Hang guidelines for using technology with respect
and with etiquette.
Remember to
review the technology guidelines with your child, students, or with your
family. Have offline activities to reduce stress, to practice kindness, and to
prevent bullying. Avoid comparisons. As well as an avoidance of competition by
having outdoor games with the focus on listening, acceptance, and empathy.
Practicing self-compassion, self-kindness, and self-acceptance can help to get
to know oneself.
Print out
worksheets with questions to get to know someone new in the classroom or in the
workplace. Additionally, make paper butterflies and write positive affirmations
or messages with positive comments on each side of the paper butterflies. Pin
the paper butterflies on a white board, cork board, or on a poster board.
Display the messages on a mural wall. Include resources about bullying
prevention and resources about reporting bullying.
Make orange and
blue paper hearts or paper sunflowers. Write inside the paper flowers with a
message of kindness and gratitude. Tie the paper messages onto flowers with
orange and blue ribbons. Share messages with everyone. Here are resources for prevention
of bullying.
