Gardening, Journaling, and Prompts (Garden Meditation Day 2026)

If you are a beginner in gardening, you might want to begin using journal prompts. Journal prompts can be useful for relaxation and for meditation. There are many gardening themes that you can find online to start using journal prompts. Also, you can use journal prompts for mindfulness, self-awareness, and self-reflection as you prepare your garden for every season. Nevertheless, using journal prompts is best when you want to practice your writing without concentrating on grammar.

On National Garden Meditation Day, you can take out your journal and write how you are feeling for that day. National Garden Meditation Day is on May 3rd every year. Sit and read journal prompts that you find online. However, you can also start by using my ideas for your journal prompts. Here is a brief list of my journal prompts.

  1. What is the first animal or insect you see in the garden?
  2. What do you smell in your garden?
  3. What do you hear in the garden?
  4. Who do you see in the garden?
  5. How do you feel sitting in your garden?
  6. Why do you feel that way?
  7. Why do you want to improve your garden?
  8. What do you touch in your garden?
  9. What do you taste in your garden?
  10. How do you feel after being in your garden?
  11. How did you feel before walking in your garden?
  12. Who do you think about in your garden?
  13. What walking path did you take in your garden?
  14. What do you see in your garden as you take a walk?
  15. What are you grateful for in your garden?
  16. Describe what you see.
  17. Write short poems about your garden?
  18. If your garden were a song, what would it be?
  19. If you can add an addition to your garden, what would it be?
  20. What colors are your patio furniture in your garden?

Write a paragraph for each question. Also, do not forget to slow down when writing in your journal. If you cannot write a paragraph, write one or three sentences and stop to see your garden. As well as doing breathing techniques as you see your garden without overthinking. Take a walk and then write in your journal.

After answering questions from the journal prompts, you can add drawings, sketches, or take pictures of what you like in your garden. Another tip is to take pictures of your flowers that are blooming and use those pictures for your cellphone wallpaper. Each time you look at your pictures, you will be reminded of your garden and how you feel being in your garden. Additionally, you can sit in your garden and watch what you see. Make a video of what you see in your garden. Lastly, reply to the video of what you saw in your garden.

Keep your garden journal for seven years. Re-read your journal. Continue writing in a new journal and keep your journals to re-read them. Also, save journal pages that you like to share with others with the date and year. Here are resources about more journal prompts for meditation and writing in your garden journal.
