Accumulating too many items creates bottled-up emotions. Hoarding is caused by depression, not letting go of the past, holding onto the sentimental value, and a combination of other mental health disorders. There are numerous occasions for a person to begin hoarding because of fear of losing their memories from the past. Also, purchasing duplicate necessities thinking you might need them for later. Hoarding is a disorder due to indecisions and procrastinating about keeping items for several reasons.

Giving away items to charity and throwing away broken items will also help with the healing process. Keep in mind that the cleaning process takes several days as the room gets uncluttered. 

When helping someone to stop hoarding, you will need plenty of patience, time, and listening. Storing items in an organized manner takes more time for a hoarder. Therefore, the main aspect to treat is the emotions and behavior to end the hoarding. The less clutter in a home, the better your health will be mentally and physically.
