Recovering from Cancer (Breast Cancer Awareness Month)


Recovering from breast cancer does take months or a year to feel satisfactory. Yet, it is recommended to have an optimistic attitude and follow your doctor's instructions. Depending on the stage of breast cancer, your doctor will guide you in treating the cancer. Cancer treatments do make you feel tired, but it does allow you to live longer. Your doctor will tell you step by step if you need surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. 


Furthermore, your oncologist might prescribe hormones in the form of a pill or the form of a shot. However, it all depends on the cancer phase. Nevertheless, the process of breast cancer treatment requires a lot of patience and acceptance. Also, your skin, your hair, and other physical changes do occur during the treatments. The main thing is to remain calm, eat healthier, and get rest. 


After completing breast cancer treatments, you might feel pain, tiredness, depression, and other physical issues. Make sure you continue going to your follow-up appointments. As well as speaking to a psychologist for managing your emotions and for personal advice. Having support from your family does help immensely. Practice yoga, tai chi, and other meditation techniques when you are fully recovered. 


Remaining calm is the best way to celebrate your recovery. Everyone's breast cancer recovery is different, but the goal is to be motivated to feel better. Going back to work keeps you busy mentally and physically. Spend quality time with your children or grandkids. Although they may not understand what breast cancer is, they can still sense that something is bothersome to you. 


Schedule some family time and self-care time for yourself. Additionally, keep or change your lifestyle routine so you can take care of yourself. Make some time to write in your journal about your experiences and your recovery from breast cancer. Practice your hobbies to make you feel happier. Discuss with your doctor about treating your digestive issues or any other symptoms from the side effects of the treatments. 


Take care of your body in a physical and mental aspect. It is fundamental to discuss your worries, fears, and other feelings with a professional counselor. Keep in mind it will be challenging to be optimistic because of the physical changes; Your body does change but you will remain unique as a person.
