Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month 2024

Playing word games can help you relax, focus, and may help you with improving your memory. Word games can be played online or through applications. These games can also be purchased with large print which can make it easier to find words on paper. Play these games for thirty minutes a day. Repeat and recite the words that you play in the word games.

Although more research needs to be done for preventing Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and other chronic neurological diseases; Playing word games may help with memory recall. Yet, there is no specific game for preventing Alzheimer’s and Dementia. However, reducing stress, managing emotions, and making changes to your lifestyle can help. Knowing your risk factors and following recommendations from your doctor might help to prevent Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Seek professional guidance for quitting alcohol, cigarettes, or other substances.

In addition, you can play games with others to make it more fun. Socializing and playing games can improve brain function. As well as dancing and interacting with people can assist in improving your memory. Loneliness, depression, and isolating yourself can increase the risk of Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or other chronic neurological diseases. Reconnect with your friendships and schedule time with them.

Singing can also help you remember and concentrate. If you want to remember where you put your keys, cell phone, or other item; You can sing a short song that has the word key, telephone, or other item. Additionally, if the song rhymes it can help you remember where you placed the items. Sing a song to help you concentrate and relax from a busy stressful day. Write down the song on paper to sing it.

Record your to do list. Play your to do list recording. Avoid loud noises and get your ears checked out for hearing loss. Participate in activities that you enjoy. Protect yourself from falls and use a walking device.

Do self-care, Tai Chi, Yoga, or other relaxing activities. Use applications that are available for caregivers and for people who have a chronic neurological disease. These applications can assist in doing brain exercises, meditation, medication alerts, and other resources related to Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
