Walking Meditation in the Summer

Meditating and walking in the summer is calming and makes you self-reflect. Although every season makes you do self-reflection, the summer season makes you reflect on what you need, what you want to change, and what you want to self-discover about yourself. The summer season makes you slow down and feel the energy from the sun. Additionally, you might make a list of how you want to do your summer schedule and incorporate a summer walking meditation. Walking meditation in the summer can be done at the beach, at the park, your garden, a hiking trail, a botanical garden, or during your vacation area.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are appropriate for the hot weather. Carry water or an electrolyte drink before you begin your walking meditation. Watch your surroundings and watch your steps. Observe your walking and the ground. Use your senses to hear the waves, the birds, the city noise, or other noises.

Continue walking and see the ground. See the sky with sunglasses. Watch the clouds move and stop to observe nature. Walk in the opposite direction as you continue listening to the sounds of nature or the city noises. After five to ten steps of walking, drink your water or electrolyte drink slowly.

Taste your drink while you view the sky with your sunglasses. Find an area to sit down. Touch the sand, the dirt, the flowers, leaves, or water from the gardening hose. Be careful in touching sand or dirt especially if there is glass, insects, or sea creatures. Think about your breathing, your walking steps, and what you want to accomplish during your summer vacation.

Let yourself smell the ocean and feel the cool sea breeze. If you are at the park, smell the trees and the food from your picnic basket. However, if you are doing your walking mediation in your garden, smell your citronella plants, herbs, flowers, plants, and the leaves of the trees. Do breathing exercises in the morning before the summer heat arrives in the afternoon. Hear the birds chirp and walk slowly while feeling the grass.

If you have garden stones, make a pathway for your walking meditation, and add summer garden decorations. It is recommended to do walking meditation in the summer morning before it gets too hot to walk outside or walk in the summer evenings. Furthermore, before you begin your walking meditation, focus on your breathing, and make an intention. For example, if you want to walk for peace of mind, concentrate on your breathing and let go of any pessimistic thought that comes to your mind. When a pessimistic thought arrives, breathe, and accept the thought.

Let it go after you exhale and continue walking. If you get sleepy after walking ten to fifteen steps in your backyard, stop meditating and continue your walking meditation the next day. Meditating in the summer can be challenging due to the summer heat. Yet, finding ways to meditate in the morning or in the evening can assist in helping you relax during your summer vacation. Here are resources about walking meditation.
