Denim Day at Work 2025 & Tips

Denim Day can be encouraged at work by wearing something denim and bringing awareness of sexual violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and rape. Every year on the last Wednesday of April is Denim Day. Yet, there are ways to wear denim at work and to show your support for sexual assault awareness month. You can wear a denim pin, a denim bracelet, or denim shoes on Denim Day. Also, you can wear a teal ribbon combined with denim fabric to support survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, rape, and sexual violence.

Sign a pledge at work for Denim Day. During your lunch break, use the hashtag #Denim Day and recommended social media information to post on your social media pages. Listen to the sexual harassment videos of your sexual harassment class and make notes. Give cards to survivors that you know who have experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment to show your support. As well as having a comfortable conversation with a survivor during your lunch break or after work.

Listen and have empathy. You can also wear denim hair accessories with the color of teal. Denim jewelry, a denim belt, or a denim watch can also be worn. Depending on the type of work you do, make sure you feel comfortable with your selected denim outfit for work. Lastly, you can wear a denim badge holder for your name tag at work.

However, make sure you follow the work policies or uniform guidelines before wearing denim. If your job has an empty cork board or a break room information wall, you can display brochures, posters, and tips for preventing sexual harassment, sexual violence, or sexual assault. Always ask your supervisor if you can display the brochures, posters, or other printed materials. Be attentive and practice active listening among all employees especially if some employees make bad jokes about sexual assault, sexual harassment, or sexually explicit language. Participate in an employee group discussion event on Denim Day with tea, snacks, and print out handouts about sexual assault along with sexual harassment information.

If denim is not allowed in your work uniform guidelines, you can use denim accessories for your desk. Use pens wrapped with denim fabric or purchase denim flowers to decorate your pen holder for Denim Day. Nonetheless, you can also use a denim tote bag, a denim picture frame, or other small denim items for your office or cubicle. Another way is to use a denim keychain for your keys. Paint your nails in teal or blue denim nail polish with butterfly nail art.

Purchase magnetic denim butterflies or make them display on your office whiteboard or information wall. Additionally, include positive affirmations written on blue paper butterflies or blue paper flowers. Inspire others to make an informative wall with positivity and with prevention tips. Include a list of places where survivors can go for emotional healing. Do not blame survivors of sexual assault, sexual violence, sexual harassment, or rape.

Be careful with romantic relationships in the workplace especially if you and a co-worker are dating. Have boundaries and follow workplace guidelines during office hours. Be cautious with romantic messages during work hours. Avoid romantic conversations when both of you are working. If the romantic relationship interferes with your job, consider changing your work hours as you continue dating your co-worker.

There is nothing wrong in dating a co-worker, but it is necessary to avoid romantic behaviors and actions at work. It is necessary to get resources for sexual health and sexual harassment training. Make sure you are ready for a romantic workplace relationship with a co-worker and communicate with them your relationship concerns outside of work. If you break up the relationship, keep in mind that you might need to change your work hours and distance yourself from your ex. Also, if your ex speaks to you sexually or touches you without consent; It can be reported to Human Resources and to the authorities.

Encourage your co-workers to read educational materials and to notify any uncomfortable work environment language, jokes, or sexual comments. Consult with Human Resources about reviewing sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sexual violence with all employees. If a sexual harassment class is offered, ask questions and save the information in a bright blue folder. Dress professionally as you wear your denim and encourage others to participate.
