Self-Care Tips, Summer, & Wellness
Wellness and self-care are
necessary for reducing stress, for improving sleep, and for improving social
connections. Yet, dedicating less time to self-care and for wellness can cause
too much stress and burn-out. It is recommended to change your self-care
activities with the seasons and to focus on what you need for overall wellness.
For example, you might want to change an unhealthy habit and replace it with
self-care activities. Also, seek professional help if you cannot quit your
unhealthy habits.
Often during summer
vacation, it can be difficult to find time for self-care. Yet, doing self-care
in the summer can take one minute or one hour to do. Other times, doing the
same self-care routines can make you feel boredom or feel less relaxed. However,
changing your self-care routines during the seasons especially during the
summer months can help you reduce your stress. Also, always checking emails,
text messages, social media posts, and work chat groups can make you feel too
stressed out especially when you are on summer vacation.
Taking a break from social
media and work group chats can make you enjoy your summer vacation. In the
morning, go tech-free for thirty minutes. Use those thirty minutes for doing a
self-care activity. Do something you want to do such as an activity for your
mental, physical, emotional, or social health. These activities can vary and
might not work for everyone that wants to practice self-care for relaxation.
Nonetheless, select an activity for your mental self-care, emotional self-care,
physical self-care, and social self-care.
Listen to your mind and
body. Select two or three self-care activities for one hour or for thirty
minutes for each activity. If you are doing self-care activities with your
partner, select activities you both want to do together. After doing self-care
activities, practice gratitude and feel inner joy. Here is a list of self-care
activities for your emotional wellness, physical, mental, and social
wellness.
- Play a musical instrument for thirty minutes or listen to instrumental music that you like.
- Watch the night sky and use your senses as you observe the night sky.
- Draw the night sky or record the night sky views to draw what you see.

The summer season is a
busy time and sometimes one might need more physical self-care, emotional
self-care, and mental self-care. Also, one might be more aware of one’s social
aspect and might want to do social self-care. You can do social self-care by finding
activities to help you connect with your friends and spend time with them
throughout your summer vacation. Set reminders to practice social self-care by
doing yoga with a group of friends, painting party with iced tea, or another
fun activity your friends can enjoy. Additionally, you can do emotional
self-care activities or mental self-care with mindfulness, meditation, or
journaling with friends.
To begin with several
self-care activities for your physical, emotional, mental, and social health,
you can make a self-care summer list. Decide when to do the self-care
activities with your friends and if you want to do those activities by
yourself. As well as taking care of your body during the summer with a skin
care routine as you practice self-care. Keep in mind that your list might
change the next day or in the next week of vacation. Do not worry about your
self-care list changes throughout your summer vacation.
No matter what type of
self-care activity you select for the summer, make sure you are in a ventilated
room that feels comfortable and that you do not feel too exhausted doing the
activities. Practice self-awareness and body awareness before you do a self-care
activity. Listen to your body and you might want to change your self-care
activity for a slower energizing pace and for developing skills. If you feel
sleepy, you might want to do a mini spa day to help prepare for your sleep and
for your skincare routine. Take a shower with natural lighting or meditate in
bed with natural lighting in your room to avoid indoor heat.
Make sure your room
temperature is not uncomfortable for you. Wear your comfortable clothes and
comfortable shoes to practice self-care. Practice self-care in the morning and
at night during your summer vacation. Also, practice self-care after your summer
vacation with your partner and by yourself. Here are resources with more
