Yoga & Summer Nights
Sometimes doing yoga
during the sizzling summer nights can help you manage summer stress and prepare
for sleep. Also, there are cooling yoga poses such as Half Splits, Head to Knee
pose, Wide-Legged Standing Forward Bend, and Screaming Toe pose can help with
relaxation. Cooling yoga poses can also help with blood circulation. As well as
combining other poses such as the Star pose, Triangle pose, Reverse Table pose,
Bow pose, and Boat pose. While you practice Yoga, you can do star meditation.
Star meditation can be
done with Kundalini Yoga for five minutes. Place your hand on your chest and
with the other hand point it to the side as pointing to a star. Another way is
to see a star and watch the star without getting distracted. Additionally, closing
your eyes while you are sitting or lying down and visualizing a star. Lastly,
visualize staring at the moon and open your eyes after you meditate. Moon
salutations can be done in the evening or after sunset.
The Tortoise pose, Frog
pose, Lizard pose, and Fish pose can help you relax in the evening before going
to sleep. Do many yoga poses and change your yoga poses each time you practice
it. Do the Yoga poses slowly and know your body's limitations. Listen to the
night sounds outside or listen to night sound recordings in your home as you do
yoga poses. Hang a night sky painting or a night sky picture in your room and
look at it as you meditate indoors.
The Dolphin pose, Downward
Dog pose and the Mountain pose is also recommended as transitioning yoga poses.
Before you begin your yoga practice outdoors, wear warm clothing or wear
clothing appropriate for the weather changes. Place your yoga mat away from
rocks. Make sure you place your mat in a safe area to prevent slips and falls.
Wear comfortable shoes or Yoga shoes.
Think about a mantra for
the summer or a word to begin your summer yoga session. Have an ocean theme,
tropical theme, or a summer theme to decorate your room for practicing yoga.
Another tip is to read positive affirmations with a summer theme before you
begin your yoga practice. Practice yoga for one or two hours before going to
sleep. After practicing yoga outdoors, take a bath or a warm shower to wash off
the bug repellent spray.
Think thoughts that make
you feel cold even if it is warm inside your room. Cold thoughts can help you
improve your sleep during the summer. Visualize the cold sensations of a chilly
breeze, freezing water, cold ice, and cold snow. Although thinking cold
thoughts might be difficult at times, it might help you to relax before going
to sleep at night or while you practice yoga during the summer. Consult with
your doctor before practicing yoga.
Stay hydrated and drink
water before and after practicing yoga. Other times you might need to take a
short break between your yoga practice to drink water. Yoga at night can make
you feel peaceful and feel less tension on your legs. The Pyramid pose, Half
Moon pose, Child's pose, and Low Lunges can help reduce leg tension. Here
are websites with more information about summer yoga poses.
