Tips & Mental Exercises (Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month 2025)
Alzheimer's
and Brain Awareness Month begins in June of every year. To bring an
understanding of Alzheimer’s, one can have discussions and recognize the
symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Additionally, seeking medical information, medical
booklets, and consulting with the doctor about memory issues and difficulties
in recalling information. Ask your doctor about improving your memory, mental
exercises, and a medical evaluation. In addition to physical exercises and
changing one's lifestyle might help to reduce stress for brain health.
However,
it can be difficult at times, it is necessary to communicate with your doctor
about any memory changes, falls, and managing high blood pressure. As well as
managing other health conditions and improving cholesterol levels. If you want
to improve your memory, you can use verbal repetition for memorizing names and
other items. Another way is to use abbreviations, acronyms, or rhyme words to
remember someone’s name or items. Writing down the information and saying aloud
the information to memorize it.
Grouping
words together and adding parenthesis or underlining the words for memorizing
them. It is necessary to limit distractions so you can retain the information.
Use math cards, number counting flash cards, and word flash cards with pictures
to help with memory recall. Also, watching word game shows and writing down the
words that were used in the game shows. Then, making flash cards of the words
from the game shows.
Playing
word games and games designed specifically for improving memory online for
thirty minutes to one hour. Training your visual memory and expressing your
memory verbally by writing a story, writing down important dates with the
events, and other facts for memorization. Another way is by putting items in
sequence. Organizing items in alphabetical order, numerically, categories, or
matching the items helps the brain to recall the items. It might not be easy at
first, but practicing mindfulness can help to avoid distractions to help you
focus.
Use
color paper, cut paper into shapes, and use color coding to remind you of the
words. This technique might help with remembering names of people, places, or
things. Also, folding color paper and writing on each folded side of paper.
Color pens or use of highlighters can be useful and help you memorize
information or telephone numbers. Lastly, visualize the numbers or the words in
your mind as you see the shape of the color paper.
Being in
a silent room and organizing the information in a list can help with
memorization. Take breaks with your hobbies and practice reading in a silent
room. Walk in silence, do breathing techniques, and say positive affirmations
in a soft whispering voice. Yet, if being in a silent room causes anxiety,
nervousness, or too many thoughts all at once; You can practice doing your
hobbies in silence. However, if the fear of being in silence makes you avoid
doing hobbies or mental exercise activities; Seek medical professional
help.
