Wear Blue Day for Men's Health in June

Blue is the selected color for bringing awareness for Men's Health Month. The entire month of June is devoted to Men’s Health Month and to bring awareness of men’s health issues, regular checkups, and mental and physical wellness. The Men’s Health Network provides educational information and resources for Wear Blue Day. You can wear blue on the third Friday in June to bring awareness of men’s health. As well as having conversations with your partner, father, or son about diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular health with medical resources from your health clinic or from your primary doctor.

It might be uncomfortable to have these conversations with your young adult son, partner, father, or a male friend; But it is necessary to show your concern and to understand the health risks especially if there is a family history of diabetes and cardiovascular health conditions. Additionally, having conversations about lung cancer, testicular cancer, mouth, head, and neck cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and skin cancers. Some of these cancers affect young adult men in their twenties and older. However, understanding cancer screenings and regular health check-ups can make them feel less uncomfortable when they reach the age for their cancer screenings and lab tests. Encourage them to speak to their medical doctor about their health risks and other questions about their health.

Keep the conversations simple. Do not pressure them to speak to you about their health concerns. However, do listen to them with kindness and being supportive. Also, motivate them to do self-care. If they are feeling depressed, anxious, lonely, or show signs of substance abuse, do seek professional medical help and counseling.

Practice meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, and games for the brain to help them reduce their mental and physical stress. Decorate a meditation room for them by using navy blue, light green, gray, beige, red, orange, blue, pink, or aqua so they can feel serenity. Keep the decorations simple and aromatherapy scents such as Cedarwood, Lavender, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lime, Ginger, Vetiver, Patchouli, or Bergamot. Make sure their meditation room is comfortable, relaxing, and has enough lighting for journaling, Yoga, or other mind and body exercises. Nonetheless, having a meditation room for your partner can strengthen your relationship and help each other relax from the daily stressors.

Have healthy family meals together and cook healthy meals together. If their doctor gives them any health recommendations for eating healthier, accompany them by eating the same healthy meals as them. Inspire them to have a schedule for playing card games, exercise, and incorporating a fitness routine after their work schedule. Furthermore, setting one or two days aside for practicing mindfulness, meditation, and a day to relax without checking work emails, work text messages, or anything related to work. Also, use those same days to relax and to spend time with your family and friends.

If your partner, son, or father has a man cave in their home, you can decorate their man cave with blue items and include games for the brain while making it a relaxing space for them. Create a meditation area for them and an area for them to remove their shoes before they meditate. Wear blue on the third Friday in June or anytime throughout the month of June to bring a better understanding of men’s health.
